Mail destroys my attachments

Hi there,


I am writing here as I could not find any solution via Internet yet...


I use Mac OS 10.8.3 iMac 27" i5 3.0, 8GB RAM, 1TB Fusion Drive with Mail 6.3 (1503). It works fine but when adding attachments (no matter which format nor whether drag and drop or via attachments button) the attachments are shown but have 0 bytes and are destroyed. When I attach them via icloud.com everything works fine. I deleted my account and added it again but have the same issue. Any ideas what to try?

Mike,


Have you tried the basic good old, Disk Utility - First Aid (verify/repair) etc.?


Is there anything in your system logs when this happens?


While it doesn't sound like the normal reason for a mail box "rebuild", it might help?

Hi guys,


thanks a lot for your effort - I really ppreciate your help...


I also tried the two solutions of Eric and the one of HTH and nothing did work for me...


I played a bit with the different user account and in every case it is the same problem - when I drag the file (pdf, docx, image) from my files (Desktop, user account dir) to the new mail it will be destroyed.


BUT when I drag the file to Downloads and then drag it from Downloads to the new mail IT WORKS! Then back to the Desktop and from there to the mail and it doesn't work again! THE SAME when I drag the file to the Library folder and authenticate myself and drag it from there to the new mail it also WORKS!


I did again repair my permissions and it didn't help. I also played with the permissions for Desktop and the file on the Desktop and nothing could solve the issue!


Any ideas on that? And one thing I was thinking about - I have a Fusion drive - could the intern copy mechanism of this drive (from SSD to HD and back) be part of the problem? @dmenter - do you also use Fusion drive?


Thanks a lot everyone and perhaps any other ideas?

Well after reading back through your logs and the permission listing.


I was thinking, it seems Mail has a permission issue reaching the file, then also, I noticed in your permission listing, it shows com.apple.sharepoint on your Desktops directory? This seems to point to it being shared out? Do you have filesharing turned on? If so, can you temp disable, and try again while watching the log and see if the below error pops up again?


Just curious.

Also, keep in mind, you can always just call Apple and start a support ticket, at least you have some very good info to go on. (it will get you past the "Have you tried..."
