So many clever clog’s on this thread...” it’s part of the backlight to your screen thus it does not waste energy!” they exclaim ! Ermmm well if it’s not taking away from the brightness to illuminate the screen, it’s excess light wasting energy for no reeason. You can’t use energy for one purpose and get free use for something else ! It would be more light for the lcd if it was reflected back to the display. That it is not means that there is some inefficiency, and there is a waste ultimately that cannot be turned off. Nothing comes without cost !

Just think about it this way... the backlight is what lights up your display... it's basically a light behind your display. The Apple logo is just a cut out in your cover that allows that same light to shine through. Then they pop in the pastic Apple logo. So, as everyone has said, it's not using any extra power because it's using the same light that's used for your display.

Your only option is to put a sticker, case or skin on it to make it less bright.

You can not turn it off without turning of the display, as it is the same light source.

well, I agree to a certain point, because if the apple didn't shine through the lid, this light would go to the display allowing you to spend less energy.

The Apple logo is illuminated by the display brightness. It means that you can't turn off the Apple logo unless you turn off or put the computer to sleep. Also, as this light comes from the display light, it doesn't waste more energy
