missing pics after image capture import

You cannot use the "Locate referenced files" dialog to reconnect to managed originals in the Masters folder.

I'd simply copy the imported originals from the "Masters" folder to a folder on your Desktop to save them - you can later reimport them from there to your Aperture library

Then I'd rebuild your Aperture library; there are obviously broken references that need fixing. If you are lucky, the original image files with missing references will be collected in a "Recovered" project and you can restore them. Otherwise reimport the saved copies from your Desktop.

There are many ways to filter your Images. If you want to show just pictures taken with your iPhone, filter the container "Photos" with the rule "EXIF" set to:

"Camera model" "Starts with" "iPhone"

ok thanks for the reply. unfortunately rebuilding did not give me a recovered project with all my photos. the only thing is all of these photos are scattered throughout various folders within the Masters directory. is there any easy way to find them and copy them out? they were probably taken over a 6 month period on my iphone so they are not in one group. i have found about 150 of the 300 so far...

You could try the following: To find out where to look in the "Masters" folder, you need to find the "Import session" of the images in question. "Masters" is organized by year, month, day of the date you imported the images originally.

Are the images with the broken references to the masters still in the trash? Then put them back from the trash, so that you can look at them in the "Info" panel.

Edit the Metadata preset in the Ifo panel, so that it will show the "Import Session". Then you will know exactly, where the corresponding image file will be located in the Masters folder.

Is there anything in common for the files imported from your iPhone?

Do they have e.g. consecutive filenames, like "IMG1020.jpeg" or similar? All captured within a certain date range?

In that case I'd again select the "Masters" folder in your library and then search it with ⌘F.

Narrow down the search results by setting the "Search:" to "Masters" and adding suitable rules:

• Set the "Kind" rule to "mage",
• press "+" to add a "Created Date" rule and pick a range.
• To find only iPhone images add a "Name begins with" rule and set it to the prefix of iPhone names.
• You could also try to add a rule "Device Make" begins with "Apple" (but that does not work on my MAc for some reason).
• Press the arrange-by button and sort the list by the name or date
• Select the images you want and copy (not move) them to a new folder.

Try to weed out any stray images that do not belong to the ones you are looking for and than reimport this folder to Aperture.
