Switched from Iphone 4 to Galaxy S4 and cannot receive texts from iPhones

Yesterday, I switched from the Iphone 4 to a Samsung Galaxy S4. However, I cannot receive texts from friends with iphones. For some reason, when they enter my number in their phone, it assumes it is an iphone number and sends an imessage. We have manually changed the contact info to say mobile instead of iphone. We have deleted and made myself a new contact. We have restarted phones. They can see the messages I send them from my new phone, but I cannot get messages back unless they turn imessage off. This is troublesome because I cannot ask every contact with an iphone to turn off imessage just to contact me. We traded in our old phones (my iphone 4), and it was completely wiped and restored to factory settings, so I do not know why this would assume my phone is an iphone. I talked to a Samsung representative and they said to talk with apple now.

I had the same problem after switching to the Galaxy S4 from the iPhone 4. Called Apple, and they revoked my certificate, but that didnt work. Called AT&T and the tech told me to do the following: Turn off iMessage on your iPhone. Then anyone who you text that is using an iphone must first delete your texting history from their phone. Then they need to go into Settings/Messaging and shut off iMessage. Send them a text, and have them reply. After you receive their text message, they can turn iMessage back on. Worked for me.

Close. You obviously never had Blackberry Messenger either.

iMessage uses a private network between iDevices. If other people with iDevices have previously used this network and you don't turn off your end of the network they will continue to try to send on the private network.

If the user turns off the private network, since they won't be able to access it anymore, prior to switching phones there is no problem. If they failed to do so they can call AppleCare and they will turn it off for them and there is no problem.

People, there is a an easy solution, although it took me 1 stress-filled day to find it. I tried ALL the suggestions I found on online discussion threads. None of them worked, except this one: Call AppleCare for iphone at 1-800-694-7466. Just got off the fone with the dude. He knew exactly what to do and he said I should have texts coming in in about 2 hours. I got e a confirmation code from him so Im hopeful. If it doesnt work, I'll be back to comment further.

My wife and I had a similar problem. I have an iPhone 5S and she has the Samsung S4. Initially she was receiving my text messages and then suddenly her phone stopped receiving them. Based on the comments posted by others I went in to Settings/Messages/ and turned on "Send as SMS". Unfortunately, this did not resolve our problem.

As it turns out, the issue was with her phone. She "inadvertantly" fat fingered my number on her key pad and designated my number as Spam. (According to her, it is apparently easy to accidently designate a number as Spam without the users knowledge... so she says ;-)

The SOLUTION was as follows: On the S4 go to Messaging, press on the Entry in question and hold down the Entry for a few seconds and a pop up will appear with the following options -- Delete, View Contact, and Spam. Choose remove from Spam (if available). Note, if your number is not listed as Spam then this option will not appear and in which case this comment likely won't help you.

Good luck and hope this helps.
