Siri has lost her mind on voice to text

Since yesterday I have experienced this problem multiple times on two devices, both of which are on 6.something, neither of which have been upgraded in the last week.

One of my devices (iPhone 5) is set to UK English, the other (ipad) is set to Australian

Pretty much guarantees that Apple have recently fiddled with settings, perhaps to save bandwidth and processor load due to the increasing number of errors (and do overs) associated with longer queries.

That doesn't stop it from sucking...

I am having the exact same problem - it began just a few days ago (around May 1st).

I've noticed that if I have Siri send a message from scratch "Text so-and-so", "email so-and-so" she needs it to be short and sweet. If I enter the messages or email app, start a new message and hit the microphone button, I can still compose in a longer length. ** This does me absolutely no good when I'm behind the wheel and can't look at my phone.**

Never had an issue dictating text messages or emails over 160 characters (other than minor grammar issues)... but now, if I don't keep it to two sentences, she will give me a long snarky comment followed up by telling me to keep it short. Deeply frustrating.

iPhone 4S with latest iOS 6 software available for the 4S.

I am having the EXACT same problem! Siri is becoming a nagging pain in my phone! The reason why I use SIRI is so that I can send any message I want when I want. If I want to send more than a two sentance text then that is my choice. Its not worth the hassel to Add, Add, Add sentances to my original message or send various messages because my phone feels like I'm asking too much...

Same problem here in Germany. Happens after Update 6.1.4.

I tried reset, restore, factory settings without backups...nothin worked... seems like a bug or server problem but why only a few ppl? Apple care doesnt know the problem...corious....and sorry for my bad english....

For those of us with a visual disability, this is all about accessibility. Until now, Siri liberated me from the clumsy process of using a smartphone keyboard to send a text or an e-mail. But with this new restriction, we go back to the Dark Ages. Apple's unwillingness to be forthright about this makes its traditional devotion to accessibility into an empty claim rather than a promise fulfilled.

Ironically, when I use the microphone icon on the keyboard to dictate rather than Siri via the Home button, there is no limit. But that icon is not always safely convenient. If Apple were trying to conserve bandwidth, wouldn't the limit be universal?

It appears the effort to make Siri-initiated web search requests more concise has collided with the accessibility and convenience benefits available when using Siri for text and e-mail messages.

This has nothing to do with a software update. This is Apple updating Siri directly. It is happening across the board, but has not been widespread yet because most average users do not use Siri to the extent that us power users do, and don't realize anything has changed. It is definitely an intentional and specific stunting of Siri's capabilities with the intent of freeing up bandwidth for Siri, either because of further iphone rollouts, the new iphone coming later this year, iOS 7, or OSX 10.9 including Siri. Whatever the reason, it is a huge misstep for Apple. Which is where all of you and this forum comes in. I just got off the phone with Apple Customer Relations, and it is our job to let them know that this is not acceptable. Send out the following link and information via facebook, twitter, linkedin, whatever social media circles you use, and let's get this nonsense fixed before apple thinks no one will notice if they cripple Siri.

I am also having this issue. I am a blind user and have depended on Siri to send texts and e-mails (it does this on e-mail compositions too) I found a workaround by using the Messages App directly and just using the dictation button to compose my texts. Still how abnoxious is this new issue? Siri finishes by asking if I would like to ask a "shorter question" well Siri you *****, I haven't even asked you a question. Just send my friggin text. they better fix this one quick.

Just started experiencing this issue! Its so ridiculous at first I thought siri's serves had been hacked. I've submitted feedback on the website. Let's hope this gets resolved quickly!

Siri is also truncating/limiting the length of my text messages. This in effect makes my iPhone useless for texting. This is extremely annoying (I am being extremely polite there are a number of expletives I could use.).

In addition, the supposed witty comments from Siri are irritating rubbing salt in the wound. Clearly if Apple took the effort to insert these witticisms, this is a clear calculated attempt to reduce and control the length of text messages. Shame on apple . Maybe a class action suit would get their attention.

It appears Apple has programmed Siri to limit text sizes, and this is severely hampering its usability and the usability of my phone. If I try to use Siri to send a text that is a few sentences long, I get an insulting response from Siri (that I suppose is supposed to be witty) telling me to reduce the sentence size. Come on guys. This is such an unforced error by you.

I like to send texts via Siri when I am doing other things: cooking, cleaning, working with my hands around the house, feeding my son, etc. This multi-tasking is quite important in allowing me to get done the things I need to. I am extremely busy working full time and caring for a cognitively impaired special needs son.

By limiting my text sizes through Siri, you have rendered it useless for this purpose, which impacts my time. You are pushing away a customer here. I've had iphones for several years, but Samsung makes some great products now, and this move has caused me to begin shopping for a new phone from someone other than Apple.

Not incidentally, having Siri recite back a very long response when I try to send a text of just a few sentences compounds the error. It is anger inducing. It's bad enough you have limited the functionality of the phone, but to have Siri rattle off some esoteric quote to prove the point is a thumb in the eye of your customers.

I have the same issue with my iPhone 4S. I submitted feedback to Apple as follows:

"I am blind and rely soly on Siri, VoiceOver, and the dictation capabilities of the iPhone to text, call, email, etc. Until the iPhone 4S came out, I had never used a SmartPhone - I always relied upon a basic cell phone with tactile number buttons to make calls. The iPhone 4S and Siri opened up the opportunity to use technologies everyone else takes for granted. I have always accepted the fact that Apple considers Siri a "Beta" capability and that it is not perfect, but it has opened opportunites I have not had previously, just the same. That was, until this week. Now Siri and the dictation functionality in the iPhone is broke.

"In the past four days, Siri has been responding to text message dictations with quotes such as "My great-grandfather used to say to his wife, my great-grandmother, who in turn told her daughter, my grandmother, who repeated it to her daughter, my mother, who used to reminder her daughter, my own sister, that to talk well and eloquently was a very great art, but that an equally great one was to know the right moment to stop. (Mozart) How about a shorter question?" Regarding the witty comments. I think they were always programmed into Siri, it's just that the goalposts have been moved.

On the positive side. An applecare assistant spent over an hour today politely helping a client of mine unlock her and her recently passed husbands apple id.😎

Is there even a phone number for issues with Android?😕
