recently updated Aperture tot 3.4.4 and now it is totally frozen and not working any ideas?

I installed the software update for Aperture yesterday, to 3.4.4 into my Mac Pro with a processor 2X3 GHz 8GB memory running Lion 10.7.5.

The Aperture program does not run. It opens, and when I select anything it freezes. HELP!

What version did you upgrade from? Did you install anything else, when you upgraded upgraded Aperture? Any plug-ins?

Aperture may still be upgrading your Aperture library. When you you launch Aperture, try to open Aperture's Activity Monitor before you do anything else: Window > Show activity.

A few tests:

  • Does Aperture run correctly, when you work with a new Aperture LIbrary (launch Aperture with the ⌥-key held done and select "other/new" to create a new Aperture library). If yes, you will have to trouble-shoot the Aperture library.
  • Does Aperture run correctly, if you run Aperture with the ⇧-key held down on launch? Then your Aperture library contains incompatible or broken media.

If none of the above makes Aperture run, then try to work from a different user account. If Aperture runs from a different account, then we will konow, that setting, presets, plug-ins installed for your account only may be causing problems.

Please, post back after testing.

I upgraded from the version prior to 3.4.4. i did not install any plug-ins just the other upgrades that were offered when my software upgrade window opened (java, etc )

I have waited over 48 hours since installing the upgrade, so if it was still working on my library it should have be completed by now. However, it still does the same thing. I cannot hit Window-show activity because in doing so, I get the "beach ball" which happens when I do ANYTHING in Aperture now. I cannot launch Aperture with any keys held down because it is still "not responding" and I have to Force Quit.

I don't know how to work with a difference account- so I did not try that.

Thank you for your help. Although, I am pressed for time now (have to edit a job tonight) and I hope I do not lose my plug-ins (silver and color EFEX Pro from NIK) and I hope I don't lose any images!!

any other ideas?
Desperate.

I cannot launch Aperture with any keys held down because it is still "not responding" and I have to Force Quit.

Try to quit without "Force quitting". Sometimes you can quit from the Terminal.

Launch Terminal (In your Applications folder > Utilities).

Then copy and paste the following command into the Terminal window.

killall Aperture

This will send send the "Terminate" signal to Aperture, and if Aperture accepts the signal, it will quit regularly. If Aperture is unresponsive, how to avoid force quitting?

If you can quit Aperture this way, try the test I mentioned.

Upon launching Aperture, it immediately becomes unresponisive, before I even try to clic anywhere. will not terminate unless force quit.

How are you trying to launch Aperture with keys held down?

You have to hold down the keys firmly, and with the keys pressed double click the Aperture icon in the Dock. At least you really should be able to get to the Library selection panel by pressing down "⌥" and double clicking the Aperture icon at the same time.

Can you launch the console prior to opening Aperutre (it's in your Utilities folder in Applciations) and see what it's logging when you luanch?

I recall some poeple posting about not being able to launch after upgrade from teh MacAppStore. They had to delete the application from the applications fodler and them re-download the app again from the store. You might try this.
