Problems with "private" folder in SD card

I have a Panasonic AG-AC90 and my Mac is running OS X 10.8.3. When I try to import my files in FCP X the "private" folder of my SD card shows gray, and it's a Quicktime icon, not a regular folder. Any ideas about how to import the content of the SD card?

Did you double-click Private? That's how you open it in the OS you're using.

CAM_SD is indeed on the root level, so I don't think that's the problem.

No, that is the problem. That's why your system drive is not appearing under Devices in the sidebar. It should look something like this

Move that folder to some other location other than the root level of the drive. Really nothing should be on the root level of the system drive unless the system or an application puts it there.

To open Private in the Finder you double-click it. This is not grayed out, is it?

But leave that aside.

Is CAM_SD the card or a folder containing the contents of the card? If it's the card in a card reader it should appear in FCP in the CAMERAS section. I don't know why it doesn't if it's in a card reader.

What is AGAC90EJEN? Is that the camera? Not sure why the card appears to be separate from the camera if the camera is connected, yet the camera doesn't appear in the import window.

Maybe you can post a screen shot of the root level of yoru system drive? Select Macintosh HD. What do you see there?

Thanks Tom, but I haven't used two different codecs, so that thread is not really helpful.

The problem I have, as many other people, is that when I connect the camera to the Mac the Private folder of the SD card displays a Quicktime icon that can only be opened right-clicking on it and choosing the show package content option. That doesn't help to import in FCP though, so I wonder if there's an easy solution that doesn't invovle using additional programs to convert the files.

I get the same result when I explore the SD card whith Finder.

What do you see in the Finder? You should be able to double click the Private container to open it at the Finder level.

The FCP window does not look correct. Half the items are missing out of the sidebar. There are no Devices and no Favorites and the camera card is not appearing under Cameras.

Is CAM_SD on the root level of the system drive? That might be the problem.
