Hi, I have a old ibook g4 i have just bought off a friend. its runing 10.4.11.
is there anyway i can download the app store or download programmes onto it?
i think i need to upgrade to 10.5 but i dot kow how to do this?

No, the App Store app requires Snow Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6 which is not compatible with a G4 machine.
I'm afraid not. You must be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store, but Snow Leopard requires you have an Intel processor which the G4 does not have. You will have to buy a new or newer model that uses an Intel processor in order to gain access to the App Store.
Ah ok then. So to get word etc onto it i would have to do it via cd rom etc?
Yes, unless MicroSoft has Office available in a compatible format for Mac OS X 10.4 through their website. You might take a look there and see if they have it available for purchase/download.
You can purchase and download Office 2011 at www.mactopia.com. But you could not download software from the App Store. Office is not sold via the App Store. You can find the system requirements for Office 2011 here: Office for Mac 2011 system requirements.

The G4 processor Macs can only be upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5 if they have a G4 of 867 MHz or faster. Otherwise, Mac OS X 10.4.11 is the highest operating system that can be installed.
If you can you upgrade the hardware of the computer, no that cannot be changed.
So you need to find a version of Office, or at least Word, that will run under the 10.4.11 operating system.
Try the MicroSoft website and see if they list a version for download that you can use.
