Problems uninstalling Mackeeper

I have been trying to uninstall Mackeeper from my computer since getting pop ups saying to upgrade it. I only used it once on the free offer to scan and fix some issues on my computer several months back, but on advice from a friend decided not to pay for it.

I tried uninstalling it by dragging the icon to my trash but it just bounces out of the trash and won't uninstall. More worrying is when I go into Activity Monitor and see the Mackeeper helper and try to force quit it, this does not work! I have restarted my computer twice and still it will neither stay in the trash nor force quit the helper. I then contacted online helper for Mackeeper and after explaining all this he wanted remote access to my computer which I was not comfortable with. He then sent me a link to download a programme in order to uninstall Mackeeper, which I find very bizarre you need another programme to uninstall it and am getting concerned as my friend had warned me about this programme and I am wondering what it may be doing to my computer.

Can anyone help with any other options to delete this programme and why the helper will not force quit?

Hi,

I stupidly allowed MacKeeper onto my computer and now having trouble getting it off. I followed the linked you shared back in 2013 that folks said worked for them. Within that link I went to this http://help.mackeeper.zeobit.com/Manual/GettingStarted/UninstallingMacKeeper.htm l which has a visual step by step. I am able to put the icon for the application in the trash (step 4) but I am never actually prompted to UNINSTALL it (step 5). I've emptied my trash but I can tell something is still wrong because I'm getting tabs popping up every time I try to open a new one myself. What can I do?

Thanks

Things may have changed when those instructions were posted. Try this:
