No iPhone sync with Snow Leopard ???

We just bought new iPhone 4s's.

My wife has MBP with 10.6.8.

We're trying to sync Address Book & iCal through the iCloud.

She is being told she has to upgrade to 10.7 to get the iCloud.

**We will not do that. I have 10.5.8, and can only go to 10.6.8.

I presume this is just APPLE trying to force us to buy the newer OS.

**If we cannot sync with 10.6, these phones are worthless to us, and will be returned.

What's up with this ?

*****BTW, Apple--

Phone calls to either Apple Fresno or Apple Pasadena get cut off after the machine says it will connect us with a representative.

Of course, these are calls made on my new iPhone 4s.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Help...!

Downloaded Mountain Lion.

Apple Mail keeps failing and failing and failing.

It now says it's automatically sending a report to Apple.

It begins by saying-- 'Optimizing mail.'

Then goes to "Migrating data..."

It's during this step it keeps blowing up.

BTW-- Beauty is not too thrilled with Libre thus far.

Should we expect Libre and Apple Pages to open a MS Word .docx file without messing up all the formatting?

Pages and Libre Office can open .docx files but the formatting will alter, if you want perfect compatibility with Office 2004 do not upgrade. You can pay for Office 2011 which won't be perfect but will be $299 closer to perfect.

Explain what's happening with Mail, simply and step by step.
