Does your iPhone 5's wifi drop off when your phone goes to sleep?

My iPhone 5 is 2wks old and every time the phone goes to sleep the wifi stops. When I wake it up it takes approx 5-7 secs to start the wifi again :( VERY annoying!! Meanwhile i miss out on notifications! My phone is updated to the latest version 6.1.4 but a fix has STILL not been done for this. C'mon Apple get your **** together your customers are waiting!!

Also.... Does any of Apples techs even read these complaints from their customers? I'm thinking not because this issue when googled is VERY prominent for other users.

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.4

Since somewhere around the time the iPhone 3G was released, the design by Apple was that the iPhone should turn the wifi off when the device enters standby mode to conserve batter, unless the device is connected to an external power source. I remember several updated in the iPod Touch 3rd Generation time frame for fixes to this where it didn't work connectly. In some cases, it left the wifi on all the time and wold drain the battery too quickly, and in other cases, it would still turn the wifi off even though there was external power. When I had my iPhone 3G it was in s Mophie Juice Pack, so it alwasy had external power, and therefore always kept the wifi on. Similarly I saw this same thing for my iPhone 4 when it was in a Mophie Juice Pack Air. When I first got my iPhone 5, it appeared as though it might be turnig the wifi off even if the external power was connected, and I submitted bug reports to Apple for that. Now that my iPhone 5 is in a Mophie Juice Pack Air, I am not seeing the problems of the wifi disabling when it is in standby mode.

I have to agree with DaBrute, I have had 3GS and 4gs and neither ever dropped wifi in sleep mode, never. My new iphone 5s does every time and takes up to 7-8 seconds to connect yo home wifi. So annoying, it's all very well Allan you saying wrong but the fact is true, it does drop out, you may say by design, apple may even say by design, but my two other phones did not drop out and although it's only a few seconds it surely effects costs with data plans and is f annoying

My iPhone is not ALWAYS connected to a power source when at home and I venture to say the millions upon millions of iPhones around the world are not ALWAYS connected to a power source when at home.

Those that are connected to a power source when at home while connected to an available wi-fi network, the wi-fi connection is not dropped by the iPhone while it remains connected to a power source. If it does, there is something wrong with the iPhone.

Settle down bro, I never used the word ALWAYS. I said USUALLY.

Now that being said, I have 2 people I know of that have iPhone 5's and they both lose connectivity to their wifi while connected to power at home (after screen locks) as does mine. It's more of a common problem than you think. If in fact shutting down wifi is by design like you say (to save battery), what is the difference with cellular? It stays connected while out and about in cell range, why wouldn't it shut cell reception off to save battery as well?

One would think it would be better (by design) to have it shut down when locked and on cellular, due to higher data plan savings as opposed to wifi being left on, where higher data rates are more tolerable.
