international warranty for iPhone 5?

Hi

I correctly live outside of the U.S

I bought iPhone 5 (Verizon model 1429) at the U.S six mounts ago.

Last week my lock button has stopped working.

The guy at the Apple store in Europe (Barcelona) said I can replace it only at the U.S .

I was sure that the iPhone has an international warranty...

I'm not going to be in the U.S at the near future, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.4, 32GB 1429 (CDMA) Black

Iphones have never had an international warranty.

The warranty has always only been valid in the country of original purchase.

The fact still remains that it is a US CDMA phone that is a Verizon phone. It works in the US on the Verizon CDMA network that only exists in the US. However, the Verizon iPhone 5 does have a sim card slot, which means that you can use the phone, but it is still a US CDMA phone and it will have to go back to the US for any problems.

It is VERY RISKY buying a used iPhone. You don't know if it is locked to a carrier. If it is you don't know which carrier. You don't know if it has been hacked to unlock it - If it has, then it can never be upgraded without relocking it. You don't know if it has been reported stolen. There was a post yesterday from someone who paid £500 for a used iPhone, then it asked him for his Apple ID when he tried to activate it. There is a feature in iOS 7 that will only allow the owner (as determined by Apple ID) to activate the phone, to make iPhones less desirable to steal. Apparently this phone had been upgraded to iOS 7 (possibly illegally), was then lost or stolen. So now it is permanently worthless to anyone, and the buyer is out £500.

Some savvy buyers ask the seller for the serial number so they can check its status. Then, when they get the phone, find that it has a different serial number than the one they were given when they asked. There are multiple posts in this forum on a daily basis who have bought used iPhone and found that they can't use them.

If they exchanged your French iPhone in Australia, it was an exception, not policy. As said above, the warranty and support are not international. If you had a factory-unlocked iPhone, it's possible the model sold in Austrailia is the same hardware and so could be provided as an exchange. Taiwanese iPhones however are, to the best of my knowledge, locked to their respective carriers who do not allow unlocking, so those models will not be available to the service providers in any other country and hence support for those iPhones will not be available anywhere but in Taiwan.

Regards.

The warranty is NOT international, as has already been posted. Or if you read the warranty. You were lucky. It's also possible that the Asian phones are different enough that they didn't have a compatible model in their inventory. But regardless of the reason, Apple stores do not have to honor warranties from other countries, except within the EU.
