The finder keeps dying on my Macbook pro

The finder keeps dying on my Macbook pro running 10.8.3. Seems often to be associated with printing to Canon printer via ethernet. I have to do a forced restart of the whole computer as the Finder won't relaunch using usual methods. this is causing repeated wasted hours! Help.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), Canon LBP9100cdn laser printer

I did follow the instructions- downloaded the uninstaller from Intego and the window said-'select the product you want to uninstall' and there was nothing there. I also did a Finder search (OPT library) and looked in app support etc and trashed anything that said Intego.

When I search for 'BackupProDaemon' nothing comes up.

While checking the Startup Items folder I also found Retrorun and Pacesupport, which apparently relate to old software ( Nikon and Roxio) which I no longer use. Is it OK to just trash these or do I need to reinstall software and Uninstall formally?

This thread has been going on for more than a month without a resolution. It's time to take definitive action.

Back up all data to at least two different storage devices, if you haven't already done so. The backups can be made with Time Machine or with a mirroring tool such as "Carbon Copy Cloner." Preferably both.

Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup volume with the default options. This operation will destroy all data on the volume, so you had be better be sure of your backups. Quit Disk Utility and install OS X. When you reboot, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. That’s when you transfer the data from one of your backups.

Transfer only "Users" and "Settings" – not "Applications" or "Other files." Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled on the old system. Test. If the problem is still there, you have a hardware fault. Take the machine to an Apple Store for diagnosis.

If the problem is resolved, reinstall your third-party software cautiously. Self-contained applications that install into the Applications folder by drag-and-drop or download from the App Store are safe. Anything that comes packaged as an installer or that prompts for an administrator password is suspect, and you must test thoroughly after reinstalling each such item to make sure you haven't restored the problem.

You're not answering my questions or being terribly helpful now. I recently erased and restored my hard drive- not reinstalling appllications as you suggest, but I know that the disk is not corrupt or problematical. I just dumped the other two Startup items mentioned and restarted. I ran Disk Utility, repaired Permissions and Verified disk- says all OK. I believe I have got rid of any unnecessary apps now and will try running again for a few days.

OK. For anyone who still thinks they may be able to help- this is what just happened:

Finder-hang. If noone can- I'm off to the Apple geeks.
