why don't keys repeat on OSX 10.8.3

i tried the same in terminal

but its not working 😟 😟

Sorry, that's the only way I know to reverse the behavior.

The terminal command works—but it only takes effect after a restart.

Logging out and logging in will do the trick; no need to restart.

The various solutions weren't working for me until I removed the extra keyboard US Extended from the Keyboard Menu.

This is insane. What is wrong at Apple? Their OS is going down the tubes, feature by feature.

Now we have to futz with the Terminal to make things work that have worked perfectly for the last 25 years in EVERY COMPUTER EVER MADE ????

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

I just noticed that the alphanumeric (of the English alphabet) keys won't repeat when held down, and I've been on Lion for at least one year, perhaps two or longer. 😮

However things like the space bar, the tilde, period, comma, etc do repeat.

For instance:

My problem is exactly the opposite - out of the blue (without changing ANYTHING on my computer), when holding a key, it repeats the letter. I want the special characters when I hold the key!!

If you are not using a latin language, then adding one to the input sources has been known to resolve the issue you see. You don’t need to use it, you just have to add it.

If you are using one, then perhaps adding another will resolve it. Then, you can try removing it to see if it stays working.

Exactly. I was a MACcer for 13 years til 2000, now I am back after all this time and am absolutely appalled at how many basic utilities have been obliterated. I will be selling this terrible Macbook soon and will never look back.

Apple started doing this with OS X Lion 10.7, of all things "to bring the d@mned iPhone's iOS to the Mac desktop. 😠

The link you posted explains it well, and the Console command given there are correct. Just copy the command shown in the hioghlighted filed there and paste it into the Console after the prompt.

That trick works very well in Lion. I can't vouch for it working in Mountain Lion 10.8.x, which you have, because my machine cannot be upgraded past 10.7.5.
