SuperDrive Firmware Update v2.0

Hi,

I had the same non-result trying to update a single-layer drive on a 1.5GHz Powerbook. XLR8yourmac.com is reporting that slotted-drive owners who don't have the UJ-835 drive specifically aren't having a lot of luck so far (mine is a UJ-825; check "Disc Burning" under the System Profiler to learn what model you have).

The readme file with the update says to contact an Authorized Service Provider or an Apple store if your machine is on the list but the update doesn't work; I don't know if that means that the service provider will assist with updating the firmware, or tell you on Apple's behalf that your model is unsupported.

I'm disappointed, since I have one of the Superdrives that was advertised as 4X but only burns at half that speed on any non-Apple media (which, aside from costing four times as much as Verbatim where I'm located, is a real pain to get a hold of).

I too am not able to apply this update. (UJ-845E) I guess I will stop in at the Apple store and ask about it. But I guess if it says its not needed then I dont really have anything to worry about.

Same machine here, same problem. I've had lots of different media (never even seen apple branded media mind) and never had it write at more than 2x. I've even had apple replace the superdrive, after demonstrating the drive not working with 4 different types of media.

This update didn't find anything to install on.

I have a 15" 1.67gb Hi-Res PB with a UJ-846

C'mon Apple... give us some info! The doc with the file should say something like "this update is only for models UJ-8XX"

I have a 15" PB 1.67 and I have a UJ-845E and I get the same message. System Profiler also says Revision DMP2 - I don't know if that provides anyone with any extra info.

But no firmware update.

Didn't appear in software update either so perhaps unnecessary?

No problems with the update here on MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-835E. Will try some simple DVD erasing and burning soon - that should be the ultimate test.
