My 1 year old son put my iphone 5C in the dishwasher without me knowing and i ran it. The phone had to be in there for at least 10 minutes before i started to wonder where it was. I called it and could hear it ringing and when i opened the dishwasher it was completely submerged in standing water and it was still ringing. I immediately placed a test call and found that i could only hear the caller if it was on speaker and they were having trouble hearing me. The phone was going in and out. I turned it off and placed it in rice overnight. The next morning when i tried to turn on the phone it was giving me the low battery sign so i plugged it in and then turned it on and it was working better, i no longer was having trouble hearing not were they having trouble hearing me. I turned it off and placed it back in the rice.... Now that i have read this blog i see i am lucky that i have not shorted the phone by turning it off and on multiple times. My question is am i out of the woods or is there still a possibility it will short the circuits. Also, the camera still has water in it and the image is blurry, can rice fix the camera? Are the 5C's pretty water resistible or am i just lucky. (fingers crossed)

I dropped my iPhone 5 in the toilet on Wednesday - it was only in there for a few seconds. It immediately looked like it was "shorting out" and then turned black. I put in it rice within 10 minutes. I took it out the next day and tried to turn it on a couple times. Plugged it in Friday and got the low battery sign for a bit but then it went black again. Put it back in the rice. Plugged it in again Saturday night and it powered on and I could see all my text messages and updates, but the touch screen wouldn't work and there was a line of whitefish squares across the middle of the phone. Put it back in the rice (couldn't turn it off because the touch screen wouldn't work but it eventually died). Took it out of the rice again today (Sunday) the white squares were gone but touch screen still isn't working. It looked like the white squares were starting to come back as I was turning the volume up and down and the sound on and off. Siri is working. Is my phone dead? What should I do? Today is 4 days.

I dropped my iPhone 5s in the sink today - grabbed it within 2 seconds and dried it off with a bathroom towel. Went online to look at the issues on several message boards. After 4 minutes I turned it off and restarted it - no problem. Checked all the preferences - worked fine. Even Siri responded. Used a spray air canister with plastic hose to blow any water out of the charging port and speaker ports. Took out the sim card to see if it was wet - not. No problem. My iPhone is working as usual.

Best advise - don't freak out - just use common sense and go through some reasonable analytics. If necessary - put your device outside in the sun - right-side up to ensure there's no water inside and allow it to drain and dry out.

Best to all of you -

I dropped my iPhone 5s in the toilet yesterday , it was only for a few seconds I fished it out and wrapped it in a towel and shook the excess water out, I tried to turn it off but could not, the flash light came one and there was a sizzling noise from the phone and it became hot to the touch i placed it in rice as it was all I could get at the time , its been there since. I am terrified that the circuits have been fried , its only 90 days old on a 2 year contact and no insurance 😟

So, I want people to know my story. On a very rainy day, my truck spun out and rolled. Everything was ok but my iphone, I couldnt find it anywhere. The next day I went back to the scene and found it in running water. It was on when i rolled the truck, and off when i found it in water. So, i figured it was dead. I went home, put it in rice for 2 full days. Probably closer to 60 hours. Then i went to the hardware store where I found a kit that open ups iphones. I opened it up, stuck that in rice for a day, then after a day went by, I blew it out with air. I plugged it into the wall and all is well. There are 2 things wrong. The screen is a bit faded, and the battery states that it is at 3% constantly, yet it does charge to a full charge. Iphones are amazing!

You were lucky. Odds are in the future you'll have problems with the device. If that happens, you won't be able to get Apple to service it. Any non-authorized service voids your support options from Apple.

Best of luck, but be prepared for the day when it stops working completely. It may continue to work 'properly' until you feel it's time to replace it anyways, but do not assume that. Also, I'd have some concerns about possible safety regarding the battery, so I suggest keeping it in a case to minimize that.
