So doing a little research I ended up trying the following right as you responded:

set theFolder to "/Applications/AppleScripts Shortcuts of the Day/"

set commandFile to (POSIX file theFolder as text) & "Logic Pro 9 Command Keys Spreadsheet For AppleScripts.numbers"

Should this not be used for reasons unknown to my limited knowledge?

There's no practical difference here. You are using UNIX path notation - and I concede it's shorter :)

How to auto run when script is opened since the iCal Alarm can only open files and not start applications running?

Didn't think of that, sorry.

You need to do File>Export, select Application from the File Format popup, Save ...

That will leave you with an app that you can open with iCal.
