iTunes 11.0.3. randomly crashing
Installed iTunes 11.0.3 on a MBP with Snow Leopard yesterday.
Today it keeps randomly crashing. Even if its minimized in the tray.
Thoughts?

While tempting, very tempting, I am hoping Apple will get their act together on this one rather than me having to go backwards, maybe they are holding out for WWDC although I don't think we'll see 10.9 until later in the summer, so I hope I don't have to wait until then for a fix or I will be doing this.
After trying most of the fixes suggested here I contacted Apple Support, and the tech walked me through a fix that involved clearing the RAM on my iMac (OS 10.6.8) and going through some typed inputs I don't clearly understand but, the upshot was the problem has been resolved. He told me that they did not yet have enough error reports to identfy this crashing as a system problem, but he comletely understood what was going on. Also, when I explained the problem, they waved the tech fee, as I was out of warranty.
Thank you Apple...and Tim (the tech)
Glad it worked out for you, I have 10.8.3 so not sure if that makes a difference and I am guessing you don't have the typed inputs saved anywhere, maybe I will try to call Apple Care this week.
I don't remember the exact procedure -- there were several stepa and I believe they vary according to the model of computer. Sorry I can't be more helpful. I know the crashing is frustrating, but I think contacting tech support is the best way to go -- worked for me!
Good luck.
Has anyone tried resetting the PRAM (command-option-P-R on startup)? I just restarted and did this. If it works (or not), I will report back.
Have tried, disk repair, repaired permissions, tried Onyx, tried a PRAM reset, tried just about everything, still it is crashing !
Yes, I believe that was among the instructions the Apple tech gave me which fixed the problem. However, he also told me to first unplug the computer for 15 seconds, then plug it back in, wait five seconds, followed by the keyboard strokes you describe at the same time you start up the machine.
I've had no problems since I did that. Thanks for helping me recall the steps he put me through.
Jon, check my earlier reply. It worked! I finally called aApple Support to ge this info. Good luck!
thanks robert, have gone through the steps, fingers crossed eh !
Yep, I'm having this same problem since installing the latest version of iTunes (11.0.3). It's happening with greater regularity now, too. At first, iTunes would crash only when it was idle (no music playing - just the software open on the desktop) but now, it's crashing while songs are playing.
I'm posting just to show that others are experiencing these problems; I'll try some of the solutions that others have shared. Thanks everyone!
I have repaired permissions, done an SMC reset, PRAM, Onyx, and switched off WiFi sync and so far it hasnt crashed. Running on Core Duo, 10.6.8 can only do 32 bit mode
Fingers crossed !
Turning off wifi sync fixed my problem.
Anyone tried 11.0.4 yet? There's mention in the release notes that it addresses a crash to do with WiFi sync but I'm holding off for the time being. I'll wait for someone braver 🙂
I updated mine yesterday and kept it on all night. So far, everything has been solid with no crashes. I'm not an expert, but so far so good
So I went to 11.0.4 since I had nothing to lose with it crashing all the time, been open for 2 plus days now with no crashes so fingers crossed they sorted it out, I couldn't do a day before with version 11.0.3. Hope this helps those in the same boat that I was in. 🙂
