ipod battery shelf life

I want to buy a new ipod in my country, but i have a question is there any shelf life of ipod classic batteries, I mean that is there any degradation of battery quality and life even it stay at shelf with package without usage? probably this ipod is at shelf at least 2 years. should I buy it?
