iTunes 11.0.3 allows grouping of multi-disc albums. But how?

iTunes 11.0.3 is supposed to allow you to group multi-disc albums into a single item. But how?

You'll need to edit the ID3 tags and enter Disc Number information. For example 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3. Then it will look like this:

Thanks Michael. This was helpful, but it turned out that success depends on at least two more things that I originally had wrong. Firstly, the two discs must be given exactly the same name -- NOT with suffixes such as [Disc 1], [Disc 2], etc; and secondly, the tracks must NOT be marked as "part of a compilation", which I must have done at some earlier time.

Thanks again for your help.

I'm having a similar problem but your solutions, here, did not clear them up.

I have a three disc set and a number of the songs show up properly under the

proper disc; but then there are number of songs that I cannot get to move to

those disc listings. I imaged all the views in the get info section and tried to

make them match each other so they would move to the proper listing, without

success. I cannot get the sort artist section to stay blank. I matched every setting

to the properly sorted items; but when I click OK, nothing happens; and when I

check the Get Info data the sort artist has filled in the artist name again. Nothing I

have tried can get it to stop doing this. Removing all artist info leaves the song still

separate but with no artist info..

I'm running Mac OS 10.8.3, and iTunes 11.0.3. I've been using Mac's since 1992; and

I don't think I've had such a frustrating problem. I've got about 15 songs that will not

show up under their proper disc listing; all this while about 12 songs are showing up

under their proper disc listing.

I hope you won't mind my writing directly to you about this issue. I've been pulling my

hair out all day over this issue; and need some help.

Thanking you in advance; Bob Anderson Petoskey, Michigan bayareabob@mac.com

Sorry Bronco46, but the points raised so far solved my problem. I'm not a heavy iTunes user and so don't have the experience to suggest other avenues.

Incidentally I lived in Michigan (Dearborn) for a year long ago (1967/8) and among my souvenirs have a piece of Petoskey stone!

Good luck in finding a solution to your problem. Cheers, Steve, Geelong Australia.

Well, sure. If the album name is different, then of course iTunes will display them as different albums.

Highlight all the tracks in the album. Do Get Info and make sure the Album name is the same for all the tracks. Then enter the Disk # information. It is not necessary to select the "compilation" option. If this is a true compliation then in the Album Artist field put Various Artists.

I know this is an old thread but as I just went through this I thought I'd add some more info.

I did all of the above yet I had some tracks that stubbornly refused to 'join the set'. I had the same 'album artist' and 'album' name.

What I needed to do to finally get these tracks in line was go to the 'sorting' panel and enter 'Sort Album Artist' and 'Sort Album' info as the same as tracks that were in the set. That fixed it.

Believe it or not it's taken me a year to get back to this thread. I hope you saw more of Michigan (and the US for that matter) than Dearborn. I spent a long of time in Dearborn in the 1970's at the Rouge complex as representative for a forklift company to FOMOCO. I spent 1967/68 as combat medic; but after I was able to separate the Army from the medicine; it led to my current career as an emergency room RN. I spent most of my career in an inner city Detoit ER; most thought it horrible. They didn't know how really horrible trauma care can be.

I was reminded of this thread and decided to check it out to see if anyone has come up with a solution for this problem. I haven't tried any of the more solutions yet; but I'm sceptical since I took this listings apart with no luck. I've been using Mac's siince 1992 and iTunes since day one of it's release. So this is a real head scratcher; that I hope someone can help me with. In the end it will probably be 9 year old kid that probably winds up with the solution.

I was hoping to do my R&R in Australia; but if you want to make God laugh tell him your plans. You guys and Israel have to be our best allies past, present, future. I see there's a guy from Ireland in this thread; the world is a tiny place these days. In 1967 I couldn't have felt farther from home; and being away from western culture showed me how much it meant to me. Kids these days think they understand the world; they don't.

I'm going to have to google Geelong. That's one I've not heard of. But I've had Alice Springs as one presets on my Weather Bug app on my iPod Touch. I still hope to see that place.

So to bend your "ear" for so long. To bad all you got was Petoskey Stone. I've lived in Petoskey for 20 years and it's nothing like Alice Springs; we got 191 inches of snow last winter. It's beautiful, and small. I don't the military caused any PTSD; but even it did; it had to be far less than what the ER in Detroit did. It took me several year to decompress up here; I couldn't trust anyone, and slept with a gun under my pillow. Well, I still do that; but I do trust people these days.

By the way you can pick up Petoskey Stone on the beach here. Good Luck!
