Avast Antivirus for mac or Eset Cyber Security 6

Considering many threats nowadays on the Internet, including malware related to false pages, phishing pages, Java threats, I consider important to count on a security solution.

There are 2 of them I personally consider the best ones on the moment: Avast Antivirus for Mac and Eset Cyber Security 6.

Well, considering two important aspects - detection (higher scores it's better) and performance (lower system usage resources - like processors usage - it's better).

What is your opinion about them considering your experience?

Which one would you choose?

Thanks in advance!

You are pretty computer savy but there are probably 100 users that don't have a clue to every 1 like you.

Which is why many of us try to educate them on being a smart computer user. Far better to use you head and the tools built into every computer that prompt a thoughtful decison than to install A-V software and believe you don't have to worry about such things.

Well,

After reading all the opinions and searchin the Internet a lot, I decided not install any antivirus with real protection on my iMac.

I'm going to use some precautions and some security extensions to my browser: BitDefender TrafficLight, Do Not Track Me and AdBlock Plus.

Once a week I intend to scan my system with BitDefender Virus Scanner which is free and not offer real time protection.

Thanks for your opinion and thank for all try to helped me! It was really very important!

Regards!

How are you using the term "virus?" Do you mean malware in general? Yes, Macs can be affected by malware, no one is saying that can't happen, but the route taken by most malware authors is to trick a user into installing something. It's much easier than trying to get directly into the system (which has been done via Java, not JavaScript, which you should have disabled in your browser.)

As for "virus" qua virus, there have been viruses created for OSX, but only under laboratory conditions, and there are no known viruses for OSX circulating, that we know of. Again, it's much easier and more profitable to just trick a user into installling something.
