Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2 will not install. After installing, it just reappears in update tab on Mac App Store.

I have tried, multiple times, to intall the Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2. Each time it installs, it restarts my computer and appears to install fine. After logging back into my RMBP and going back into the update tab on the Mac App Store, the 1.2 update appears again. If I update it, this process just repeats.

Anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it?

Thank you.

At last I have managed to get this silly thing working.

Same as everybody else I have been installing this countless times over the last few months. Every time after installing and restarting, it refreshes in the Updates part of the App Store and re-appear. I have the power plugged in by the way, have never even used the Thunderbolt before and even rebooted and installed in Safe Mode.

Until just now....

I found the update directly downloadable from Apple's website here

support.apple.com/kb/dl1653

Downloaded the dmb file, installed it and low and behold the annoying problem is finally fixed. Just a shame we all have to work such problems out ourselves!

Hi guys, I was in the same trouble as you are. I installed this update over and over and gave it up few months ago. But today as I read this thread again I tryied to do one thing. I am using the Bootcamp and as a startup disk I use BOOTCAMP Windows disk. So I have changed it to Macintosh HD just before the install of this update (I did a manual download and installation as RianMaccer put here the link) and ... and it restarted and finally MADE changes to the OS (the progress bar was visible).

Done.

Hope it help.

Hey Dusan Zierl. I don't use BOOTCAMP but you gave me an idea, since I had replaced my hardrive and named it something different than Macintosh HD. I renamed my hard drive to Macintosh HD and tried everything again. The progress bar shows as if everything is working fine, but after it restarts and checks for updates, the Thunderbold Firmware Update 1.2 is still there. So I guess I will wait for Mavericks OS and see what happens then.

im late '11 17'' mbp my displayport quit one day too. i had tried 5+ times to get update to take then gave up. not long later my ext. monitor said no signal. i tried everything, even took it to apple store for hardwired update. they wanted 350ish for a replace hardware fix. they sold me apple tv to wireless my mirrored screen to my ext. but its weird it mouse lags and video is behind the audio if i use my audio interface to monitor. i updated to latest os to use the apple tv and the update method appears in the app store now but i still have the same failure. i have a 2nd 120ssd in my int. dvd bay the tech suggested was the problem.

Hey guys,

I am having the exact same issue for months now (since the initial release) and everything I found on the Internet forums has failed.

I was also waiting for Maverick 10.9 to fix this is issue but it stills fails.

Even better, it shows the update was actually installed (I have seen the progress bar after reboot) and it displays in the list of installed updates. However it is still displayed in the list of updates available. Go figure!

Seriously Apple ***** to not take into account this issue properly and provide a fix.

By the way I also have the exact same problem with Thunderbold Firmware Update 1.2

Here is a screenshot clearly showing the issue:

This probably refers to the AC Power being plugged in before and during the installation of the firmware.

I attempted to install this firmware on my iMac back in October. Not only did the request to update this firmware keep reappearing afterwards in my Mac App Store queue, my Thunderbolt ports died, along with an older Apple Cinema display I had attached to my iMac via a Thunderbolt adapter. After troubleshooting with Apple (having already done everything I could research), it was determined my logic board needed replacement. With the logic board installed, the person doing the repair accidentally cracked the corner of the screen while setting it down. Luckily, all was taken care of, but the download request for the firmware still showed up in my queue, even after upgrading to Mavericks, so I hid it. There is no way I'm going through that again! I have subscribed to this thread in the hopes that something gets figured out.

A couple of days ago, I upgraded to Mavericks OS X 10.9. I wanted to do it the standard way, but could not. Instead got a message about my disk not being GUID. The hard drive is not the one that came with the MacBook Pro, but a larger one I added later. So, I repartitioned it, which wiped out everything that was there. Then I used Migration Assistant to restore everything.

Once Mavericks was done, I installed updates from App Store. The Thunderbolt Firmware Update installed. There were more updates so I ran them again and Thunderbolt Firmware Update installed a second time.

It's been two days now and the App Store does NOT show the Thunderbolt Firmware Update as needing to be done. I just now checked for updates and found and installed one for Pocket, but nothing for TFU.

So, for me the erase and install of Mavericks seems to have fixed this problem!

On another note, it appeared to fix a problem i was having with my Canon printer too.

Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2 will not install. After installing, it just reappears in update tab on Mac App Store.
