Any Tips on Keeping a MacPro running fast?

I have a Mac Pro Quad-Core (2.26 GHz) with 16 GB RAM - Running OS X 10.8.3 - 3 Hard Drives (Main Drive 640 GB and 2 1TB)

Over the past few months I have noticed that it is getting extreamly sluggish yet other than OS X updates nothing has really changed. It seems like launching programs is taking longer, system stalls at least once a week (usually while running FCP etc).

I have repaired disk permissions...any ideas.

Thanks!

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad 16 GB RAM

Clone the system to a Samsung 840 Pro SSD

Move all the non system stuff to 2TB hdd(s)

More RAM than 16GB likely

2.26Ghz is the slowest sold and it does matter in 90% cases faster is best

Regular cloning and reformatting and when did you do a clean install, and did you get to ML over top of 10.6.8? that can gum up works. JAVA can be trouble. Anything you used that use to rely on Rosetta of course is not.

Separating system and data nd keeping drives to 50% or more free, and SSDs they need to be TRIM and restored from time to time.
