Suddenly starting today, my iTunes no longer opens. When I click on the iTunes icon in my dock, and the icon just bounces once and stops, never opening. I've also tried opening the application from my Applications folder, and as well as trying to open music files from the Finder. Nothing works. I've restarted multiples times. What could be the problem? Thank you.
MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
Try this, it worked.
1. Open terminal
2. Run "sudo rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app"
That will uninstall your iTunes application. The icon in your dock shows '?'.
3. Then go to the Apple website and manually download iTunes from iTunes page.
4. Once package is downloaded, Install it and you are done.
Note - This do not affect your iTunes library file or your actual iTunes media.
when you reinstall iTunes, your iTunes library is intact and you can pick it up right where you left off.
Got the same exact problem. This just happened today, for a reason I don't know!
Yesterday after updating OS X to Yosemite, it worked fine after the upgrade. But today, it won't! Trying to download now the latest iTunes hoping it will work after re-installing it.
This is crazy as they are becoming like Microsoft now!!! After doing an update to fix something, it creates a problem for something else! When I upgraded a few months ago to Mavericks, my iPhoto stopped working!!! Now my iPhoto is working after upgrading Yosemite but iTunes stopped!!!

uninstall and reinstall . That´s all you need . Worked for me. And your library is unaffected .
You can't uninstall iTunes, OS X won't let you. You overwrite it with a fresh install, but you can't uninstall the original.
Mike perhaps you tried to reinstall it from within the app store? I'd go to the iTunes download page online download the DMG and run the install package, your mac should have no issue with that, and the reinstall will correct this bug.

I've tried following Radu's suggestion (which does not work on Yosemite -- you cannot delete iTunes) and downloading iTunes directly from Apple and neither have solved the problem. I've restarted after installing and iTunes is still completely unresponsive.

It will teach you how to delete iTunes from Mac, in an easier way, mainly to change the properties of iTunes, then reinstall it. It works for me. Just that easy.

Right-click on iTunes, go to "Get Info", and go to "Sharing and Permissions". Give everything the "Read and Write" privilege. Then you can delete iTunes.
