MacMall bad experience

Hello! Received a new iMac 27-inch from Macmall in terrible condition. What to do?

Extended version:

Recently ordered a custom 27-inch iMac. After a week in ground UPS transit an item arrived in bare retail package! To say a package was in da conditionis to say nothing. It was just RUINED. Terribly dirty, badly scratched, scuffs and visible signes of hits, crumpled corners, writings with marker and the factory seal damage. Item inside suvived ok but failed my expectations completely.

That was the _NEW_27-inch custom iMac $2500 worth just right upon its arrival from MacMall.

Long story short:

Can someone tell if MacMall always ships Apple products in retail package ONLY or do they ship in in brown transportation box and Im just unlucky to receive it without outer brown box?

Their support vows they do but I doubt that official Apple retailer will dare to ship items to its customers in LIKE THIS condition.

That's the question - do they ALWAYS ship in retail package or the replacement iMac will be in brown protective box?

No idea what MacMall do, but Apple always use retail packaging inside protective shipment packaging.

Hope you didn't provide a 'clean' signature for that item. As you probably know, all shipment receipts should be endorsed 'unexamined'.

I believe you are mistaken. Any authorised apple reseller has to give the same warranty and return policy that apple gives from their brick and mortor or online store.

It can be a longer return policy but it can't be shorter. Also any apple product bought from a authorised apple reseller can be returned to a apple store.

Send it back. Apple has a 14 day return policy for full refund.

The 14-day return period applies only to products purchased directly from an Apple Store. Alejandro would have to contact MacMall and ask what return policies they have, if any.

This is from MacMall's Customer Help webpage:MacMall.com | Customer Help: Policies > General Terms & Disclaimers

If you are not satisfied with your purchase, you may return most items within 14 days of the date of shipment. We will exchange items or give you a refund for the full amount of your order. All returned items must be in their original box and include packing material, manuals and all accessories.

I stopped ordering from them a long time ago, even for small items. Bad experiences.

I don't think anyone has misunderstood the problem or your question. The simple fact is it does not matter, at least from my point of view.

Return it for a refund and order another from some place else.

So what if they do or don't ship in a cover box. You did not receive your mac in one. So either someone removed that cover box during shipping, if mac mall does use a cover box for shipping, or mac mall did not send it in a cover box. None of that changes the fact that what you got is not what you ordered. A New mac in perfect condition.

What good will it do you finding out whether mac malls normal practice is to use a cover box. Maybe they didn't with your mac. Maybe the shipping department made a mistake and shipped it without a cover box. How will that change anything with your current unit.

Hope it all works out for you.

Well since you took delivery of it, you signed for it, it could be suggested that when it arrived at your door step it was in good condition. I personally would not of signed for it and inspected it before signing and then refused the delivery.

But since apple has that 14 day return policy and hopefully you used a credit card for the purchase you can always dispute the charge with your CC company. That is if mac mall refuses to take it back.

M-m-m.. Could you please clarify what is a "Clean" signature

Sorrry, but that is you who are mistaken. Warranty yes, since the warranty is through Apple, but return policy no. A reseller can offer whatever return policies they feel appropriate; many have no return policy at all and Apple in most countries legally cannot require a reseller to offer one. Trust me on this; I've worked for a number of Apple resellers over the years, and know what Apple's dealer contract looks like unless they've changed it very recently. Nor can a product purchased from a reseller automatically be returned to an Apple Store, not for credit or full replacement. All the Apple Store would, except in unusual circumstances, do would be to repair the system under warranty.
