Recently installed 10.6.8 Snow Leopard in my 2006 mac pro tower: 2x2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
iTunes will not launch at all. I get an error message: 'iTunes quit unexpectedly' - and an error report.
Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes, but that hasn't worked.
Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I did a complete uninstall of iTunes and re-installed it.
Still will not launch.
But did you recreate the library?

iTunes will still not launch, so I can't start up to re-create the library.
It will not launch in safe mode (command key) or (command & option key)
Media and music are backed up, so I don't mind starting from scratch. But can't get it to launch at all in this account.

Since iTunes can start from a different account, I'd try if trashing the iTunes preferences from the User Library. Remove the file
/Users/your short user name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist
to the Desktop and try to launch iTunes again.
No luck... crashed immediately.
Karen, have you tried to reinstall your MacOS?
I'd try to reinstall using the combo update on top of the current OS

Same result - iTunes still crashes...

Welp, I just started having this same problem. Mountain Lion, 10.6.8, recent iTunes update. ARGH.

Unfortunately, no!
Since iTunes seemed to launch under a separate account, my next line of inquiry would be to abandon my current, working account and start a new one from scratch. I'm using my computer too much on too many projects to take time out to do so. I was hoping I would find a simple solution. :-(
Sorry to hear that. My father did something silly that lead to a situation similar to yours. I tried to help him over the phone but no luck so far. I have to drive down there and sort his mess. Did you try to run the updater again? Sometimes that could help.

The problem lay in duplicate components in my root and user Library for that account.
