Epson Scanner will not work since EPSONPrinterDrivers2.14

Epson Scanner Perfection 1250 doesn't work Update after installation of EPSONPrinterDrivers

EPSON Scanner.app Version 5.5.1 should have bugs!

Solution:

Open activity monitor, stop the process EPSON Scanner.app. Open the path Library/Image Capture/Devices, delete EPSON Scanner.app 5.5.1 and replace it by the old EPSON Scanner.app 5.48. This needs authentification. Restart the Mac and the scanner will work fine now. May be this is the solution for other Epson scanner that will not work after the update to EPSONPrinterDrivers2.14

I had this in the "epson printer software update 2.14 killed my printer" thread - figure I should put in the appropriate thread....

What you'll need is the old /Library/Image Capture/Devices/Epson Scanner.app version 5.3.15

Now, the legit way might be to just reinstall the OS and roll back... but who has time for that!

perhaps you have Time Machine on? If so, just restore your old version, otherwise:

I've uploaded it here: Epson Scanner.app (v5.3.15): http://we.tl/0wYDTatCKQ

This driver will also work for 10.6.8 (have not tested on 10.7 but seems to reason that if it works on 10.6 and 10.8, 10.7 will be fine)

You might need to reboot after putting the file in /Library/Image Capture/Devices/overwriting the newer app that is messing up your life right now...

If you don't want to reboot, check Activity Monitor for the Epson Scanner process andkill it, then make sure to unplug your scanner and plug back in. Once it's in the red light state a power cycle is the only way to get it to be recognized again by the system

Found another solution! If you go to the Epson website's support section and try to get the drivers from there, it detects the version of your operating system and tells you that you can get the drivers via Apple software update... however this is the problem anyways, the fact that those drivers are not working!

Here is the solution; you first do what mindmusic described above (deleting the current Epson Scanner app) then if you select a lower version MAC OSX then the drivers are available for download, so I selected 10.6.x and downloaded the drivers, and the scanner is back in service. 🙂

Here is the link for Epson Perfection 1250 >> http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid= 14550&prodoid=6464129&infoType=Downloads&detected=yes&platform=OSF_M_X7

Just go to that link and select 10.6.x and you'll get the driver that works.

I just hooked up my old Epson Perfection 1250 and scanned a photo just fine. (This is the first time I've hooked this scanner up to my current iMac.) But the scanner wasn't showing up in Photoshop so I thought I probably needed to update the driver. Did the Apple software update and then my scanner wasn't accessible anymore. I was happy to see this thread on this forum, but nothing has worked so far.

1. Went to the Epson website and downloaded the Epson ICA Installer for OS 10.6.x. (I am running 10.7.5.) I ran the install and rebooted and when I opened the scanner it says "Scanner not available."

2. I found an old copy of my Epson Scanner App (5.2.5) in an old Time Machine backup, but I couldn't figure out how to put the file in the proper place. When I went to my Library folder, there was no folder for Image Capture. It went straight from Icons to iMovie. So I copied the whole Image Capture folder from the old backup onto the iMac and still nothing. I'm thinking that since I used to have a PowerPC iBook, this version of the scanner app may not be functional with my current computer? Deleted the folder I had added.

3. Ran the Epson ICA Installer again. The computer couldn't even find the scanner.

4. Rebooted. Scanner worked! Scanned one document. Light turned red and the computer said the scanner is not available again. This doesn't make any sense to me.

5. Rebooted. Scanner not available.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, follow mindmusic...

I think Epson Scanner App 5.2.5 the problem, maybe too old.

Thanks, but as I mentioned, I did not have any Epson app installed to begin with (I didn't even have an Image Capture folder) so that doesn't explain why it initially worked and then stopped working after I did the automatic software update. If I knew exactly how to do it, I'd just as soon uninstall that update!

I think part of what I need to know is what creates the Image Capture folder and all the things in it and why don't I have one? I may have a bigger underlying issue.

True, I have 10.8.5 and I know I started having an issue when I jumped to 10.8 from 10.6. The solution I showed you worked for me. The old Epson Scanner App I had in my backup was 5.48. and I also had the folder "Image Capture" in my Library, which fruitless does not seem to have. Prior to that it worked differently, through something that came with the Epson Scanner. When I placed the Epson Scanner App into the Image Capture folder, it changed how the scanner worked. Now Image Capture opens up whan I use the scanner not the Epson Scanner software.
