Epson Scanner will not work since EPSONPrinterDrivers2.14

Epson Scanner Perfection 1250 doesn't work Update after installation of EPSONPrinterDrivers

EPSON Scanner.app Version 5.5.1 should have bugs!

Solution:

Open activity monitor, stop the process EPSON Scanner.app. Open the path Library/Image Capture/Devices, delete EPSON Scanner.app 5.5.1 and replace it by the old EPSON Scanner.app 5.48. This needs authentification. Restart the Mac and the scanner will work fine now. May be this is the solution for other Epson scanner that will not work after the update to EPSONPrinterDrivers2.14

I have had the same problem with my Epson 1670 Photo scanner since the 2.15 update. DON'T UPDATE if you haven't already. Downloading the 10.6 driver from the Epson web site does not work either. The scanner will work but the resulting scans are jumbled.

Joel Brunner was absolutely correct. The 5.3.15 version of EPSON scanner works perfectly. Unfortunately his link no longer works. BUT you can get this verison of the driver if you still have the Install Mountain Lion app on your hard drive. I used Pacifit to extract it and I put it in /Library/Image Capture/Devices (deleting the old one fiorst of course) and it works like a charm!

Let me first say that I use Mac OS 10.8.5. I realize that this particular thread is in the 10.7 section but I am sure some Mountain Lion users are reading this forum as well in desperate need of a fix. So the file I reference is in the Mountain Lion installer.

Unfortunately anubis, the 5.3.0 driver that you obtain by going to Epson's web site and downloading the 10.6 driver, as you suggest, does not work for me. The scanner will scan but the scans are garbled and unusable. Again, I use Mountain Lion. I had to obtain the 5.3.15 driver that is available in the "Install OS X Mountain Lion" app that should be in your Applications folder if you've downloaded it. You have to use the appplication Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/) to extract it from the installer and copy it to the folder I, and you, mentioned. If you are not computer savvy this may not be ideal because as you say, don't mess with the system folders if you don't know what you are doing. BTW you can access the correct "Library" folder by holding down the option key and selecting "Library" from the "Go" menu item in the finder.

I say "if you still have the Install OS X Mountain Lion" app in your Applications folder because if you don't make a copy of it or move it from the Applications folder, it gets deleted after you finish updating to Mountain Lion (and in fact Lion and the new Mavericks.)

Hey All,

Sorry the link died I'd host it at my site brunerd.com but am unsure if that qualifies as distributing copyrighted software and would rather not have some Cease and Desist to my hosting? So legalities aside, we'll let dropbox deal with that!

Here's a new link: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/83563028/Epson%20Scanner%205.3.15.dmg

Inside the dmg is the 5.3.15 version of Epson Scanner.app along with these instructions:

Instructions:

Drag EPSON Scanner.app to /Library/Image Capture/Devices/

Overwrite the existing file

Reboot or open Activity Monitor and Force Quit any instances of Epson Scanner.app

Notes:

File is from:

/Applications/Install OS X [Cat Name].app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg

Inside Install.dmg:

/Volumes/Mac OS X Install ESD/Packages/Essentials.pkg

Use Pacifist to extract:

/Library/Image Capture/Devices/EPSON Scanner.app

or

If you have ~6GBs of space and some time (it'll take a while) you can extract the entire archive with pkgutil

Example extraction to Desktop folder Essentials (folder must not exist):

pkgutil --expand /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ ESD/Packages/Essentials.pkg ~/Desktop/Essentials

Thank you all so much for the feedback. I apologize for going MIA. On Oct. 17, a family member went into the hospital and I left town thinking I'd be gone through the weekend. Didn't come back home for almost six weeks, then left again for Thanksgiving. I've just now had time to go through your messages. Thank you especially to anubisBrooklyn for figuring out that I was looking in the wrong Library folder and JoelBruner1 for the dropbox file! I've just successfully scanned a document and am very thankful I don't have to pay for a third-party scanner app!

How do I give y'all points for helping me?
