My desktop icons are appearing half offscreen

User uploaded file As you see in the photo, my Macintosh HD icon is appearing half off screen, it is the default location and even if i drag it below it will find it way back off screen.

This is not a very big problem, but it is very annoying, because it also affects my clicking location, even if i click UNDER the icon, it will still click it.

This problem happens mostly if i close my lid (sleep), and then re open it to log on.

It is removed by restarting the computer but it comes back none the less.

I would appreciate any help i can get to stop this from happening, thanks.

Sorry, I shouldve mentioned that stuff earlier.

Macbook Pro 10.8.3, 13 inch, Mid 2012.

and i fixed the problem thanks to you.

I went on the screen display settings and i chose SCALED, instead of the "Best for built-in display", i chose the 1280 x 800, and it fit on the screen, the icons arent going off again.

So, i dont know why apples options of automatic resolution is not working on my computer but thanks anyway!

I wont have to deal with this nuisance any longer! 😀

And no, i am not using any other monitor.
