Hello,
I have the newest version of iMac and I want to make an time machine backup on my external USB 3.0 harddrive. But the transfer rate is very very slow. The system shows an backup-time of about 100 days (!!!!!) to save 450 GB. What's going on? The harddrive is also really new and works normally if I use it as a normal harddrive (also with other Macs)... Who can help me????

Agreed with TooManyBoxes. Shut down my virus protection and the back up is chugging along at a reasonable rate. 400GB should be backed up in under an hour to my WD NAS drive.

I definitely resolved this probem turning off BitDefender bfore the backup.
Is this still a valid offer Linc? I don't know how much of this to give but perhaps this many lines woudl be OK? Problem is extremely slow backup rate on time back to external disk "MyBook" with serveral disks labelled "servers" sitting on an xserver.
reason I did an image i'm on a remote server.
PS on my latest post - I have no virus software on this server. It's an older model server running 10.5.8.
