itunes keeps asking for my apple id password. it's NOT entered incorrectly.

i'm trying to redeem a code (or access my itunes account at all) and itunes won't accept my password. it IS entered correctly. when i enter it incorrectly, the red text informs me that i entered my id or password incorrectly, but in my current situation, no error message is shown. it just pops up the login box again and again.

my id and password are working on my phone and ipad, and here on the forums (as i was able to log in to post this message).

has anyone else had this problem? i recently updated to the latest version of itunes, maybe it's related?

if anyone else has had this problem and was able to fix it, i'd love to hear how you did it.

Thanks for the post regarding clearing the cookies. That corrected the problem I was having of the continous pop up dialog box for my Apple ID password. I closed iTunes, opened then cleared the cookies in Safari, closed Safari, opened iTunes and it prompted me for the password only once. I should also note that I also had cleared the password value in the keychain first, and while it did not correct the problem I was having, I noticed that the password was put back into my keychain, with current data and time, after I brought back up iTunes for the final time and authenticated with my Apple ID and password.
