Titles Zoom in FCPX ?

Hi there

I'm not sure if I'm being really thick here when using Titles Zoom I cant see how you decide how small the text starts off and how big it is at the end?

What I basically want it to do is go from nothing to look as if the text is coming out of the screen towards the viewer and beyond.

Any help?

Thanks.

Try this out:

It is a basic 5 second title and has 4 parameters:

The zoom effect will start at Start Offset Frames (gives the viewer a chance to see the title before animating, or set it to zero to begin zooming right away.)

The Z Change Rate will zoom the text Star Wars style for negative values and zoom the text toward the viewer with positive values. Values near 0 will vary the text only slightly and 0 means no change.

There is a fade out (in frames) if you don't zoom the text all the way (and quite necessary for zooming the text away from the viewer.)

The Y Position parameter will give it a better "fly-by" effect -- this should be keyframed from 0 at the beginning to a few pixels either direction (you'll be able to tell.)

If you need it to go faster, just shorten the title in the storyline; conversely, if you need to stretch it out some, lengthen the title in the storyline.

If the title looks fuzzy/pixelated when animating - and that bothers you, just select it and render it (Control-R) then play it.

This will do the effect you want, easily.

An alternative solution would be to get Motion5 for $50.

Although it can do a lot more than titles, it can build templates that are quite sophisticated in a surprisingly short amount of time. You can also take the templates that ship with FCP and customize them as needed. So for example, your zoom could incorporate depth of field and perspective for added realism.

Just a thought.

Like has been said before, keyframing text parameters doesn't always work (I'd say it mostly doesn't work).

I found one simple way to make the "Zoom" title, er... zoom.

Instead of trying to keyframe the font size, click the video tab and keyframe the scale.

Move to the start, click the keyframe button and set the initial scale. Then move to the end and set the final scale. The slider will only let you zoom in so far; but you can enter a larger value directly (like 1300% in the example below).
