Titles Zoom in FCPX ?

Hi there

I'm not sure if I'm being really thick here when using Titles Zoom I cant see how you decide how small the text starts off and how big it is at the end?

What I basically want it to do is go from nothing to look as if the text is coming out of the screen towards the viewer and beyond.

Any help?

Thanks.

It is a basic 5 second title and has 4 parameters:

The zoom effect will start at Start Offset Frames (gives the viewer a chance to see the title before animating, or set it to zero to begin zooming right away.)

The Z Change Rate will zoom the text Star Wars style for negative values and zoom the text toward the viewer with positive values. Values near 0 will vary the text only slightly and 0 means no change.

There is a fade out (in frames) if you don't zoom the text all the way (and quite necessary for zooming the text away from the viewer.)

The Y Position parameter will give it a better "fly-by" effect -- this should be keyframed from 0 at the beginning to a few pixels either direction (you'll be able to tell.)

If you need it to go faster, just shorten the title in the storyline; conversely, if you need to stretch it out some, lengthen the title in the storyline.

If the title looks fuzzy/pixelated when animating - and that bothers you, just select it and render it (Control-R) then play it.

This will do the effect you want, easily.

Great, stuff Ive got the above installed now.

Is there anyway to make it go in the opposite direction/reverse though?

To start out huge beyond the screen and then shrink down?

I thought it would be as easy as setting the setting it opposite to coming out of the screen (Start 0, Z 100)

So I thought it would be Start 100, Z 0, but that doesnt work.

Any help?

Ok -- I added a "Start Zoomed" checkbox which will start the text "behind the viewer". It can only be used with negative Z Change Rate (obviously). If you use Start Zoomed, dial down the Start Offset Frames param so the text will appear more timely. It will give a semi "star wars" type of effect (without "perspective")

You can download the title here:

http://sight-creations.com/fxexchange/TitleZoomSC2.zip

Replace the old folder, this is essentially exactly the same Title effect as before.

[the installation path is ~/Movies/Motion Templates/Titles/<Choose or create a category folder!>/<place Title Zoom SC folder here> (sorry I left that out last time!) ]

Adding this feature was *trivial* [what took so long is I had to mow and trim the lawn this afternoon -- in very oppressive heat 😝 -- a weekly obligation this time of year...]. If you'd like to make customizations to templates, I highly recommend investing in and investing time in learning some basics about Motion. It's worth the price even if all you do is go in and set your preferred published parameter values for effects that already come with FCPX and save to a Favorites category.

PS -- I thought about adding having the text zoomed all the way out and setting it so the view would zoom all the way through (basically opposite of what you requested...) but that would require adding an extra level of Fade and probably setting a point at which the text would become visible, and the choice of zoom distances tends to be a matter of taste. Just second guessing values would take more time that iit's worth. That's one of those preference things better chosen by the user. [hint, hint 😉 ]

Hey. I know this was a while ago but I'm trying to recreate the STAR WARS effect of the words flying backwards. (The hollow words not the scrolling story stuff) I downloaded the title and tried to put it in the folder. Got as far as Motion templates. There was no titles folder so I created one. Put the whole file in there but it didn't do anything and theres nothing different in the final cut title bank. Did I miss something?
