I noticed two updaters and the OSXUpd10.8.4.dmg rather than the combo and it worked. I went back to the Moutain Lion page to dowload the the full 10.8.4 but got confused by the Apple dialog box that says

Would you like to continue?

OS X v10.8.4 is already installed on this computr.

Use the Updates page to install the 10.8.3 update or

if you would like to download the full OS X Mountain

If I click on continue with it give me the full 10.8.3 or 10.8.4? I chickend out and used Cancel

What was really strange was the App Store downloaded the Install OS X Mountin Lion to my archive drive and wrote over (replace) the 10.8.3 installer with teh new 1.3.24 installer.

This will ALWAYS happen when you download a new FULL installer (OS X Mountain Lion.app). It will always overwrite one that it finds on your internal drive or external drive.

I have already upgraded my mac to 10.8.4, but in the MacApp store there appears an option to Download the Installer, as well as the option to Upgrade.

If I Download the installer, will it automatically start to install from Launchpad, or will it wait for me to tell it what to do? I don't actually want to install it from that - again ...

It is downloading it into LaunchPad to start with - 4.4GB, so I have a little while. If it starts to install it, how do I stop it? I just want to keep the installer for emergencies etc.

thanks
