Not sure. I don't know how long before Apple puts the full installer on the Mac App Store. I can only assume it's there as of yesterday. What you might do is after the download completes, grab the InstallESD.dmg file; then quit the installer. Restore the InstallESD.dmg file to a USB thumb drive (8GB); then look at the version plist to see if it's 10.8.4.

I always wait a week before grabbing the newly released update full installer.

You get the 10.8.4 version, I have just done this procedure. I must admit the mention of 10.8.3 was a bit off-putting.

I make a copy of the installer and keep it on a bootable clone, so that I can do erase installs as necessary. Mainly because my internet connection is very slow and 4.46Gb uses valuable band width too. It took three hours to download!

I downloaded the whole thing but cannot find the installer .dmg on my hard drive. I did not let it restart becasue I wanted to save the installer. They used to put it in the Applicaitons folder but I can't find it or do not know what filename to find. Some help with the location of the 4.4 GB file will be appreciated

I looked and found a new file downloaded today 5-Jun on my external drive called "Install OS X Mountain Lion" and hte installer version is 1.3.24 and it is 4.46 GB. The filename nor the Get Infor says anything about it being an installer for 10.8.4. As I recal the GM installer for 10.8.3 was version 1.3.33

Can someone verify that the version 1.3.24 Install OS X Mountioin Lion is for 10.8.4

The Install OS X Mountain Lion.app file is the installer. The InstallESD.dmg file is inside it.

RIght click on the OS X Mountain Lion.app and select "Show Package Contents".

Open the "Contents" folder.

Open the "SharedSupport" folder. Inside there is the InstallESD.dmg file. Copy it to your Desktop or /Downloads folder.

Now you can use Disk Utility to Restore the InstallESD.dmg file (image) to a USB thumb drive (8GB).

After you Restore the .dmg file to a thumb drive, there is a version plist that you can open to see the OS version number.

If you downloaded the OS X Mountain Lion.app file from the Mac App Store, it is most likely 10.8.4.

Right-click the Install OS X Mountain Lion application and choose Show Contents. Then go to the Contents > Shared Support folder and open the InstallESD.dmg file in there (it will verify and mount as a disk image). In the image that mounts, go to the System > Library > CoreServices folder, and in here you should see a file called "SystemVersion.plist." Open this file, and you will see a number of strings that tell you what verison of the OS is i the image.

Bingo...... thanks guys. All comments were appreicated and the 1.3.24 instiller did its thing and all is looking goood. What was really strange was the App Store downloaded the Install OS X Mountin Lion to my archive drive and wrote over (replace) the 10.8.3 installer with teh new 1.3.24 installer.

I have a backup and installer and will use the Lion Diskmaker to put it on an 8 GB thumb drive.

Thanks again for ALL of the comments
