10.8.4 kills SMB Shares, Anyone else have this? tested on 2 servers

Has anyone else seen this. PLease see the error message attached.

I have run the combo updater over the top, repaired permissions, stopped and started services.

I have test this on PC's and Mac, which produce the same results.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Found a solution, it´s a bit wired, but the problem description is wired too. E.g. that only shares wich was i use in meantime of the upgrade. But OK, here we go.

1. First look on the Windows Maschine you are trying to connect. In the System Log you should find one or more entries like: Event ID 2017 from "srv" wich states: "The Server was unable to allocate..."

2. open regedit on the Server wich has this error in log

3. goto "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" an change the value of "LargeSystemCache" from 0 to 1

4. goto "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters" and change the value of "Size" to 3

5. restart the Server service on the Windowsmaschine

6. try to connect to the shares from your OS X Maschine

7. done

Seems that Apple has over optmized SMB with the new Update...

I run 10.8.4 on a MacBook Pro and same issue here. Cannot connect to my shared folder through SMB anymore.

I tried to connect with a NAD M50 streamer, with a Win PC and with Fing/Filebrowser on my iPad. On Fing I see the SMB service in the network, but I can't connect.

At Apple Support they told me that they don't support SMB. Great.

Hope this gets resolved soon.

It may be completely unrelated to your problem, but I fought connection issues to Windows shares for 3-4 hours today and thought it was related to the 10.8.4 update. As it turns out, it was a date/time issue. I had changed the date to test something and this was causing the issue. Same behavior I've seen elsewhere with the login box jiggling and acting like a bad password. Put date/time back to automatic and logged right in with no problems. It seemed to speed things up to turn OFF AFP as well, but that could be incidental.

I posted this origianlly and kept forgetting to update this, as I have not really had time.

I have kept this very brief, but it took a lot of messing around and trial and error to get this working.

One of the servers with this issue just started working again and the other needed a total rebuild, as it was a customers server and I did not have time to mess about.

We still have multiple issues with SMB and 10.8 Server, as the connection would drop when working in Indesign or playing a video over the network.

In short after lots of messing about I installed SMBUp, turned of Apples SMB, Added all users to SMBUp and enabled afs share on each share I set up. In Server file sharing I set posix up for AFP users.

All mac users connect via AFP and Windoows users via SMB. I found that adding Macs as SMB seems to cause lots of permissions issues.

So far so good, but we have now stopped using 10.8 servers in a mixed environment, as it is a pain in the ***!

Hope this helps

I started getting this when I upgraded my MacPro4,1 from 10.7 to 10.8 last night.

I also have a MacPro1,1 and a MacMini3,1.

The MacMini3,1 (by coincidence) is 192.168.1.6 - same as orignal post above.

The MacPro1,1 (10.7 of course) connects to the MacMini instantly upon login.

The MacPro4,1 (10.8 now) fails to connect to the MacMini. I do a Command-K and it then connects fine. The MacPro4,1 was connecting instantly at login unti the upgrade to 10.8 last night.

Definitely an issue with 10.8

OK, this is a BIG JOKE... I cant get my files from my Windows server so I'm having to transfer them to my NAS then go on my MAC and drag them accross to my USB drive (formated for OSX). This is taking me over 2 hours to only transfer 40 gig.

HELLO in Apple land is anyone listening to the issues your update has pushed onto us users!!

Anyone else ****** off or is it just me?

I am having a similar problem at this office. We are running a Windows Server 2011 and several Mac computers throughout the office. There are also a few Windows 7 PCs.

The Mac I use, Mac OS X 10.7, can ping, RDC, and view/download files from the server. Another Mac also running 10.7 can connect to the server with no problems.

The two Mac OS X 10.8.4, on the other hand, have not been able to connect to the server (apparently one has not been able to for some time). I tried pinging the IP through the terminal and the connection timed out. I was able to ping the Mac in question from the server with no problems. When I look in Finder I can only see the other Mac computers and not a single Windows machine on the network. I tried manually connecting using Connect to Server and smb with the IP.

This is a serious problem for our company since we back up significant amounts of data from these two newer Macs onto the Windows server. Every day that this persists, we risk losing important data and my collegues productivity goes down.
