How to run apps that doesn't work under 10.8?

Hi:

I have a program that can't be ussed in 10.8. This is Nikonscan, it only works with 10.4. Is there any way to cheat it, in order to make it work with 10.8?

I'm a switcher and in windows there is a "compatibility mode", where if you are, lets say in windows 7, you can tell windows to behave as if it were any previous version. Is there something similar in mac?

I know installing a virtual device would be a solution, but I would prefere to work in 10.8 (beside I don't have any older mac os version).

Thanks in advance.

Look for an updated version of that software or find an alternative. The only way would be to install a virtual machine and somehow install 10.4 in that virtual machine. If there is a Windows version of the software you can just install Windows through Bootcamp or a virtual machine and run the software through that.

what I asked is if is there any kind of "compatibility mode" in mac for running old programs

There is not. Your alternatives, as cbs20 has said, are to find an updated version of the software, find an alternative or find a way to run 10.4. The latter will probably not really be possible, as no modern Macs are capable of running 10.4 at this point, and I would be fairly doubtful that any virtual machines would support it at this point either.
