Do you mean like this? It is an external hard disk. Click on the arrow to eject it properly before disconnecting it.

For the full disk, do you have Time Machine Preferences set to make hourly backups? These are automatically thinned to make room for user data as necessary, but turn them off to see the effect on your disk space.

I have not set up Time Machine yet on the new computer...Here is what I mean

And the other part about my computer being full now is below. All I did was transfer all files via ethernet and I have also deleted the other user and this is the current storage info.

I just tried the Go>/Volumes and got an alias to my hard disk. It is a bit pointless really because Finder will show these in the sidebar, depending on your preferences. Here are mine for your information.

Regarding the disk usage, is the first screenshot the new account and the lower one the other computer?

It looks like you have more than twice the number of photos now, would that be right? Are there several libraries? If you open iPhoto holding the Option key, it will show you a list of available libraries. iPhoto Library Manager has a merge function for this, amongst other things.

Before I saw your reply to this I had gotten so frustrated that I erased and restored the new computer to "back to box" and then connected the old computer and transferred from there. I thought this would solve the problem but it's really no better-just different problems

Now my iphoto is an older version and when you try to upgrade it, it wants me to purchase the newer versions. Is there somewhere for me to find the newer versions (iLife '11) that came on the new computer.

I got mine on disk, but for newer computers I think it should be under the Purchases tab in the App Store (MAS). It may be hidden, in which case go to the Categories tab and then Quick Links to your account. There is a section there for unhiding the apps. Otherwise you may try the Express Lane in Apple Support to see if you can re-download your licenced copy. I hope you have the registration key?

Fingers crossed....this may have done the trick. I'm bummed I couldn't have everything look the same way that it did when I started it up out of the box but I guess I have to let that go. Just now trying to make sure everything is here.
