Horrible battery life after 10.8.4 update?

Computer: 2010 MacBook Pro 15"

OSx version: 10.8.4

I updated my computer yesterday to OSx 10.8.4.

While I was on 10.8.3 after a startup with nothing running my mac showed 5-7 hours or so of battery life.

With 10.8.4 it now shows 2-3 hours if im lucky after a startup with nothing running.

As I post this I started at 100%, I have been using my computer for not even 20 min now and its down to 80%

The computer shows the battery condition is normal, and my energy saver settings are optimized with graphic swithcing, hard disk sleep, etc..

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

but any idea why the SMC and thunderbolt update is not installing? Or why it keep showing up?

Sorry I don't know about firmware updates. Maybe get them from the Apple Support website download page and try again.

Can anyone confirm for me that if i do the reinstall of OSx from recovery, that it wont delete anything? Including apps. Thanks!

No. That can never be confirmed 100% There are several things that can cause issues. That is why you need to keep a couple of Backups before you reinstall. By rights you should lose no data, but nothing can be gaurenteed 100%.

So simply backup properly just in case.

I had the same problem (11 hours of battery life on Lion, 3 hour on Mountain Lion and 2.5 hours after installation of 10.8.4). Clean install worked for me (8 hours now). Restart your computer, hold CMD+R during the start, than choose new installation of a new OS copy. Takes more than 2 hours. All data and user setting remained OK.

So did the reinstall. Now getting 4:41 min on a reinstall without erasing data. Not good at all.

I'm having the same issue... My battery drains so fast since 10.8.4 update. I tried resetting PRAM and SMC, nothing happened. I repaired permissions, still nothing. I used to have 7h battery life before the update, now, barely 4h30...

EDIT: I solved my problem thanks to JiriV method 🙂 Reinstall ML worked for me !

Sorry for continuously posting, just to try and help others! Anyway, i did a reinstall for a SECOND time. Now my computer is showing 10hr12min on a full battery. Thats what I like to see! Will report back in 2 days on whether its still up, or if it went down!

I also just did a clean install and its worse now..... im getting 2:30 hours and less of battery after upgrading again to 10.8.4......... i have two macbook air 2011, both showing the same thing, the other has not been reinstalled yet, but also getting slighty more than 2 hours of battery, dont know what the **** is going on.....

I sure DO hope Apple fix all this soon, im losing a lot of work here 😢

Actually, I still have battery issue... Clean install did not change anything at all. Even when my wifi is off, I lose a LOT of battery, with no apps in the background.. Apple should ear from us and release a fix now !
