How to change a compilation album's album artist from "various artists" to something else?

I have a couple albums on iTunes marked as compilation albums and am able to create albums with different artists for different tracks without a problem.

However, when I view these albums on my iPod (late 2009 iPod classic, 160GB) these albums appear on Cover Flow with "Various Artists" as the album artist despite me setting something else under the "Album Artist" field on iTunes. Additionally, these albums do not appear on the "Artists" section under the iPod's music menu (maybe because they're set as compilation albums?).

What should I do in order for them to display something other than "Various Artists" on Cover Flow, and for them to appear on the "Artists" menu on my iPod classic?

iPod classic, Windows Vista, Late 2009 6g iPod classic, 160GB

Hello Rodancoci,

In iTunes you can modify the song information you mention. Heres an article outlining how to get to the information screen named iTunes: Adding or modifying information about songs found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2530

If you want to add or change information about a song in your iTunes library, follow these steps:

  1. In iTunes, select a song by clicking it once. If you want to change the info for more than one song at a time, select all of the songs that you want to have the same information by holding down the Command key (Mac) or the Control key (Windows) while you single click each song to be changed.
  2. Choose File > Get Info.
  3. Click the "Info" tab.
  4. Enter the song information that you want to display into the appropriate fields.

You can follow these same steps to add or change information about videos, audiobooks, ringtones, and most other items in your iTunes library.

Note: The Name field must always contain information.

The Artist section is in the Info tab.

All the very best,

Sterling

Thank you for your reply Sterling. I have already done this, (right click songs > Get Info > enter information in respective fields). Specifically, I marked a particular album as a compilation album, entered a name on the "Album Artist" field and, lastly, filled the "Artist" field differently for each song in the album (the "Artist" field is not the same for every song in the album).

However, when scrolling to this album in Cover Flow on my iPod, the artist under the album's title is not what I previously entered under "Album Artist" on iTunes. Instead, it simply says "Various Artists".
