10.8.4 introduced incessant audio glitch

During iTunes playback, everytime the audio squawks and drops out for a second, the following spew appears in the console:

6/5/13 8:39:17.533 PM coreaudiod[171]: Enabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is inactive

6/5/13 8:39:22.724 PM coreaudiod[171]: Disabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is active

6/5/13 8:39:43.297 PM coreaudiod[171]: Enabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is inactive

6/5/13 8:40:50.885 PM coreaudiod[171]: Disabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is active

6/5/13 8:41:45.525 PM coreaudiod[171]: Enabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is inactive

6/5/13 8:41:45.884 PM coreaudiod[171]: Disabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is active

6/5/13 8:41:51.503 PM coreaudiod[171]: Enabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is inactive

I've installed the freshest audio drivers to no avail

Getting rid of the SPAM is all that matters. Functionality is fine. If this were my thread, that would be my answer. Thanks qwerty.

1) sudo nano /Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.ServerSettings.plist

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>AllowStackShotsDuringIO</key>

<true/>

</dict>

</plist>

2) Write out & Reboot

Is anyone experiencing this problem without Flash Player or any Adobe related plugins (CS5 installs a ton)?

My answer is already in the post you replied to. 🙂

To be more specific, the console log spamage persists but I haven't noticed any audio glitches associated with it (like others have reported) on 10.8.4 systems without any Adobe software installed.

I am getting these errors too, but mine is directly related to using Terminal. Every time I get an error beep, like trying to use tab complete feature. It creates this log file.

7/19/13 2:55:20.764 PM coreaudiod[225]: Enabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is inactive

I think this is an OS glitch. Not adobe, not 3rd party.

I created the .plist file as indicated above, now I see:

28-07-2013 03:22:24.441 coreaudiod[187]: FIXME: IOUnserialize has detected a string that is not valid UTF-8, "a *???".

28-07-2013 03:22:24.441 coreaudiod[187]: FIXME: IOUnserialize has detected a string that is not valid UTF-8, "a *???".

in console logs (twice as shown) when I boot up.

Is this expected?

Whoops. Thanks. This started when I updated my machine to 10.8.4, but I already had Adobe software so I couldn't verify myself without uninstalling it. I think it's a 10.8.4 bug. Like you, I haven't experience any problems with audio performance or functionality, so I just told my console to stop logging it.

same issue. this didn't happen with 10.8.3. it doesn't happen when playing music but it does happen almost constantly when playing a move off a networked drive through VLC. i've been using the same setup for years without issue. now the video locks up momentarily as the audio hiccups. the log file is full of:

13.08.24 10:58:03.212 PM coreaudiod[232]: Disabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is active

13.08.24 10:58:08.423 PM coreaudiod[232]: Enabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is inactive

etc., etc.

i only have the basic stuff:

/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/A52Codec.component

/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/AirPlay.driver

/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/iSightAudio.driver

10.8.4, iTunes 11.0.4 -- i'm upgrading to 11.0.5 to see if that helps.

I have a fresh install of 10.8.5 and added my stuff (VLC, IntelliJ, Vmware..).

Started to hear a small beep from time to time. Checked the logs and:

16/09/13 6:21:43.096 PM coreaudiod[160]: Enabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is inactive

Really annoying since before reinstall (bought a SSD), no dramas

I will update the com.apple.audio.ServerSettings.plist and see what's going on ...

This hack* also solved the problem for me. I previously upgraded from 10.8.4 to 10.8.5, but this message was still present => after aplying this .plist, problem has gone :-)
