Mail issues after 10.8.4

So I upgraded to 10.8.4 last night and now when I go into Mail and start reading mail the email comes to the inbox. I select an item to read and the reading panel open but its comepletely blank. I go out of Mail and back in and it displays for a second but then vanishes.

What has happened to Mail? Is it now totally unuseable?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), 3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7

Additional thing that did not work--setting up fresh install of 10.8.4 on a newly wiped external drive, partitioned but not encrypted, nothing else on that or any of the other partitions, and booting from a test account on that drive. I sent e-mails including multiple photos, non-encrypted PDFs, and various other file types as attachements--only the encrypted PDFs remain a problem.

I am having the same problem with my apple mail. My mail is crashing everytime I view an email with attachments. I have to force quit and open it again to make it work. I hope apple is working on a fix for this one one at the moment because mail becomes useless.

A couple of months ago I had exactly the same issue and it was fixed by an update. I hope they relase a fix for this soon.

I am going to try deleting the sandbox and see what happens.

By the way, the problem started after latest update 10.8.4

Thanks,

Ciro

FYI, duplicate post (sorry) from my topic--

Reply back from the engineers, via support advisor

"I received an update from our Engineering Team. They advised me that this is a reoccurring known issue with the version of Adobe Reader installed on your device. There are troubleshooting steps they are suggesting we take."

and a little later

"Apple Engineering has informed me that they have received reports of this symptom and are investigating. Further updates, if any, may come by way of a software update, knowledge base article or software release. They also informed me that further troubleshooting would not be necessary."

So they blame Reader. I have deleted reader, verified trash emptied, nothing by that name left on the machine per search in finder, and after reboot, no difference in symptoms. I don't think it's reader. I think it's 10.8.4.

I removed the previuos version of Adobe Reader and downloaded and installed the latest version as of yesterday 25-Jun-13 from the website. It solved a couple of things regarding some required pluggins however mail keeps crashing when I move one email from an IMAP folder to another and still freezes (loading icon displays forever) in some emails.

Hope they release the fix soon.

Cheers

I am seeking help in downgrading to 10.8.3 and have disabled automatic updates. Of course, even if I'd waited a while to hear about 10.8.4 I probably would have heard nothing about this problem because I don't spend enough time in the right forums. I updated in hopes that they would have fixed the color shifts due to graphics card switching, and 10.8.4 broke mail without fixing the color shifts. It was also supposed to improve coordination between Calendar and Microsoft exchange calendars, and that still stinks.

Really not a happy camper here either.

Tried your suggestion and thank you for it but it didn't work. There seems to be two issues here. For me at any rate. I updated to 10.8.4 Fri Jul 12th & Sat Jul 13th Mail started crashing and has kept doing so after a couple of minutes or so. But I also have problems with emails from my own site, which uses a pop address for four accounts. For the couple of minutes when Mail is active I can receive mails via gmail & iCloud but not my other addresses.

Some people here have said that their problems are caused by PDFs. I have not received any PDFs since this problem started about eight hours ago.

The only workaround I can think of is to go to gmail & my own site but this is time consuming and really we shouldn't have to do this. It seems Apple was aware of this issue & IMO shouldnt issue statements saying updates are "critical" when there is a serious issue like this regarding the Mail app.

Obviously if the update is labelled "critical" then I am goind to download it. I am not going to check Apple discussions first. Nor do I see why I should. I expect to be able to trust Apple with downloads.

I never had this problem when I used Entourage, which I did from 2001-2011 when it was stopped as part of the Office for Mac package. How strange that Apple cannot produce a Mail app in 2013 which is at least the equal of the one I used in 2001.

A suggestion on another thread is to install Attachment Tamer, available at http://lokiware.info/Attachment-Tamer

This has been a successful work-around for me. The password protected pdf displays as an icon rather than previewed in the body of the message, and mail works as it used to before the 10.8.4 upgrade.

Thank you brian-bagley for the suggestion.
