Setting Up Mail

I want to set up Mail so that it gets messages from my gmail account. I have had several problems doing this, the first is I am not shure about what POP and IMAP are I know a little but I don't know wich one gmail is. I am also not shure what my outgoing mail server is.

Can someone help?

Hello,

I recommend you first try using gmails instructions and if that doesn't work then come back and ask for help.

Thanks, but I still am having problems, I get this message when I try to send somthing:

Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings.

I look in the pop up menu but the outgoing server I setup is not there, I checked my account and everything looks fine, yet I can't get messages or send them.
