Error - No associated application could be found when clicking on web link in Mail

Within Mail, I get the following error message that reads "No associated application could be found". I have tried to restart with no resolution of the issue. Any advice is appreciated.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)

I have Mtn. Lion 10.8 and all of a sudden started being unable to click on links within e-mails without getting error message: No associated applicatiaon could be found. Tried the solution: Run Disk Utility (in Utilities), select the Macintosh HD volume and do a Repair Disk Permissions. Did not resolve the problem. Tried going back to Safari to make it my default browser, then back to Chrome to make it my default browswer and that fixed the problem.
