Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml?

I have two w7 pcs. Both had mcafee. My main computer is what I used to sync iTunes. Finally uninstalled and put norton on. Left mcafee on the other. My grandsons use that one. Scan all the time. Got bad bad virus and had to reformat - this was the one with mcafee. I did not put mc back on. Went with norton. CJ Green

The only issue with McAfee has been with 11.0.4.4. I rolled back to 11.0.3.42 and all is again flawless. As noted earlier in this thread, the McAfee site speculates the issue is with Apple and something that changed in 11.0.4.4. Regardless, looking for Apple to do something, anything, even acknowledge there is an issue.

LOL - Really? No corporate competition? Not heard of Sophos or Symantec (Norton)? Never mind. Has to be said that global corporates move at glacial speeds and hide behind the 'It's not our fault' defence..

Heard of those yes. But that was not a point. Point was "your personal leverage" - which I doubted. That is what your leverage amounted to so far:

"If VirusScan is deleting a legitimate file I've already posted what to do. If an iTunes file is routinely being deleted then Apple should be contacting McAfee at the Corporate level. I have not had any problems here with an iTunes files and folders, st least not with them being deleted, apart from some really maddening refusals by Apple software in general at remembering settings. The McAfee Consumer Mods raised the issue on the weekly conference call and notified one of the Tier 3 techs of the problem. If nothing much is happening it's presumably because the issue is not consistently repeatable. As has been noted earlier if it's a timing issue it becomes harder to pin it down. It needs Apple and McAfee techs to liaise and perhaps share source code, and we all know how much big corps love to let someone else go browsing through their source code :-)

I've no doubt there are discussions taking place behind the scenes, and a fix will be slipped out quietly at some point in the near future. It's how these things get done.

I have no doubt that discussions are taking place, I also imagine, that apple is working on new update for itunes source code (version for ios7) of which is going to differ, from one discussed now. I also have no doubt that McAfee is doing what it is suppose to do with everyday updates. I also have used software long enough to know, that there is never guarantee with two different software programs that they will work without conflict. Since in my line of work I have to protect my users, I tell them to run from McAfee, just like I did in April from AVG. There is no alternative to iTunes, there are multiple to antivirus. I am not going to wait untill "discussions" are over, hence advice I give here and at work. I do not care for McAfee customers, I have other people to protect. I feel thread here is important, cause we all look for and exchange solutions. If solution offered by members here like tt (MSE), CJ Green (Norton) helps 50 or 100 people - I am happy camper. Solution, that McAfee or Apple still unable to provide, and 5000 people viewed. Last post has nothing to do with that, just admired someone's ego size. BTW, thank you for internal information.

iTunes has an update that popped up today. i did not install it! Have any of you installed the update? if so is it bug free and did it resolve the McAfee problem? CJ Green

I've installed it and it works fine for me. The release note says it fixes an issue with iTunes in the Cloud which has been creating duplicate listings, or playing the wrong songs for some people. I've seen a couple of threads where McAfee users have installed it and claim it has fixed this issue for them, but that may not be permanent, or work for all.

Keeping fingers crossed this does the job!

I don't have anything running with McAfee on my computers anymore. Can anyone advise if itunes update fixed the problem, so I can stop uninstalling McAfee for every problematic situation I encounter?

I just installed itunes 11.0.5 and it appears to have solved the issue with McAfee Real Time Scanning. I am continuing to test on my system and haven't been able to make itunes prefs delete anymore. So hopefully this resolves it.

I have an open ticket with McAfee Level 3 and they call me once a week. blah blah still working on it. I expect a call tomorrow or Tuesday from them just to see what they say. I don't care who fixes it as long as it gets fixed.. f

So,, short story. So far 11.0.5 solves the issue with McAfee.
