Is iWeb '09 compatible with Mavericks or Mountain Lion

I am still running Snow Leopard because of a VM. Looking to upgrade to Mountain Lion and then Mavericks or straight to Mavericks if permitted. Need to know if iWeb '09 is compatible though with the more recent OS.

Runs fine in Mountain Lion for me. Mavericks is not released to the public yet so no one can know for sure on that one. You do know that, although iWeb will run, it is discontinued software, right?

Apple won't listen to you posting on a user to user forum at all, so if you want any chance, then you'll have to contact them directly at http://www.apple.com/feedback.

Also, get real and do a search of this forum to see the hundreds of posts on the demise of both MobileMe and iWeb. iWeb was really created in the first place for MobileMe and one click publishing and now that MobileMe has gone and been replaced by iCloud by over a year there is no chance that Apple will do anything with it. Just look at the version number - iWeb 09 - no update in 4 years so why do you expect more?

Again, grow up and move on and use one of the many alternatives out there that exist. Most others have.

A nay sayer, not likely. More like a rational, realist. Apple is moving their effort to the cloud and, as a result, have discontinued iboth DVD and iWeb (notice that the new Macs are minus optical drives). The development teams have been dissolved and personnel assigned elsewhere. You can rant and rave all you want but it just ain't gonna happen.

iWeb was not only for mobile me, you can post to any FTP site without having mobile me. You can publish on your desktop too, that's why so many people still use iWeb.

Apple MUST RESTART IWEB and update it with the latest technology, maybe an iPad and iPhone

version to be able to update our website site on the go.

There is so much thing Apple can do with this software, it's a non sense they stop this.

Yes, I am well aware that you can publish an iWeb site anywhere without needing MobileMe. I have used iWeb for a long time and have done lots with it and have created many websites.

What I was saying was that Apple really created iWeb with the old .Mac and MobileMe in mind, so that you could have one click publishing etc. Things have moved away from this now with the advent of cloud services and FaceBook etc, so that is why when Apple ditched MobileMe, they ditched iWeb too and went with iCloud that does not offer web hosting services.

Apple don't need to do anything they don't want to just on your say so. The latest version was iWeb 09 and it is now 2013, so 4 years and nothing has been done with iWeb, so it is not likely to be resurrected now. Apple stopped selling the boxed sets in stores and online sometime ago now and withdrew support for iWeb sometime ago too, so they have moved on from iWeb.

It may not make sense to stop developing iWeb, but this is what Apple have done, so you'll just have to move on from it and either continue to use iWeb or use something different.

iWeb is an application on your Mac and it still works so continue to use it and stop ranting. Ranting will not get you anywhere and will not make Apple do a U Turn. If you want to rant, then send them feedback directly rather than doing it here where they won't see it - http://www.apple.com/feedback.

Also, look into the many alternative software creation packages that there are out there - RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express, Flux 4, WebAccappella 4 and many others.

Also, take a look at EasyWeb that Rage software are developing as an alternative to iWeb with all the things that iWeb did not have, such as the ability to create drop down menus etc.

Abandoning iDVD is a non sense too, they can move that software to a digital world and let us make menu for home video in a DVD style but for the Apple TV instead of a physical DVD. Like iTunes Extras do with hollywood film. iTunes extras compatible with Apple TV 1 only??? another weird thing.

I think they put all the man power behind iOS and maverick but don't spend energy on stuff like iLife who was successfull for the mac.

But for iWeb, I hope somebody can give us an answer if iWeb will continue to work seamlessly in Maverick like it does in Mountain Lion.

Aug 21, 2013 7:44 AM in response to Gilles Savard1

Well yes, but that is because they have moved on and iMovie and GarageBand are now only available via the Mac App Store, whereas iWeb and iDVD are not, but were part of the iLife DVD boxed set.

iWeb is 09 and was part of iLife 09 as well as being part of iLife 11, but iWeb was NOT updated as part of iLife 11.

Apple always intended to keep iMovie and GarageBand, but not iWeb or iDVD.

You can still use iWeb if you have it on your Mac like any other application, but it won't be updated any longer.

I very much doubt this. iWeb is long gone now and went over a year ago now, when MobileMe closed down and was taken over by iCloud that does not offer web hosting.

iWeb served its purpose when we had .Mac and then MobileMe, but outlived its usefulness really and lots of people are using cloud services now.

iWeb has has not been updated since 2009, so this tells you something really and I very much doubt that Tim Cook would make the decision to bring back iWeb.

Keep on all you like, but you really need to move on and look at the alternatives to iWeb of which there are many that have been listed already, such as RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express, Flux 4, WebAccapella 4 and Quck n' Easy Website Builder.

Move on, because I very much doubt that Apple will ressurect iWeb now.
