I have tried a few additional softwares - but they transfer the files as a txt file - doesn't go back into imessage. Distressed - not only stressed!! 😟

Hi, everyone.

I have a similar situation here. The difference is that I completely restore my MacBook from a backup which was made last week. So this week's message history in the Messages application is gone. But it's still in my iPhone. Is there a way for me to recover these messages from my iPhone?

Since I don't have a newer backup, using Time Machine to restore is not going to work here.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

They are gone.

The text and formatting that displays the iMessages on the iPhone are just that:- info for the Messages app.

Saved Chats on the Mac are in the .ichat format or in the case of the Chat window (main Messages window) they are stored in the three chat.db items.

Both of these cannot not be read by the iOS app (if trying to go the other way).

The iMessages are pushed to the devices.

Once on the devices they are deleted from the iMessages server. In fact there are technical differences between the iOS "version" and the Mac one and sent out from different servers within the iMessages cluster.

Basically you only have them if you keep them but the iOS and Mac versions are not interchangeable.
