Downloading via Apple TV VERY slow

Need help. I have Apple TV linked to my TV and also Telstra Bigpond T-Box.

Problem: If I use Apple TV to RENT a movie .... it takes HOURS to load before I can view it on my TV? Don't know why this is happening as I can rent a movie via the T-BOX and it instantly loads? Can anyone give me some idea of what is going wrong here? Thanks / J

Many streaming services like Netflix are rate adaptive so lower qulaity for a slow connection - this is usually the issue with AppleTV 'downloads' as the stream is fixed size.

SD needs 2.5Mbps, 720p 6 Mbps, 1080p 8 Mbps to play virtually instantly in most cases.

The unit calculates the internet speed and how long it will take to buffer of the fixed size stream to start playing with the rest downloading as you watch.

Doing other things with AppleTV will reset the buffering and cause you to have to wait again - renting in iTunes and Home Sharing under Computers icon on AppleTV can help.

Test your speed at speedtest.net on a computer.

Apple TV does fine when I am connected to the internet and watch movies or vidieos. I have problems with constant rebuffering when I try to watch TV from my computer. For example, I tried to watch the latest WWDC on my TV and it was constantly buffering. My wife tried to listen to radio streaming from her iPhone, again, constant buffering made listening not possible, plus, it would periodically disconnect. Do you have any ideas? Thank you for your help and support. Using airplay
