I purchased 2 apps and a day later my credit card balance hasn't changed. Concerned that I won't we billed and will end up with a debt on my account.

Silly question perhaps but how could the purchase be made if the authorisation charge fails. Surely Apple wouldn't release the purchase until ... or is there some kind of 'in between' period when purchase and payment do not relate?
There is a bit of an algorithm to it, but we can't and shouldn't get into it on public forums.
