iPhone screen not functioning, cant backup to itunes

My iphone made an unfortunate entrance into my beverage over the weekend.

I got it out as fast as possible but the front screen is totally black and not usable at all!

I am able to plug it into itunes and it is recognized...however when I attempt to back it up (to the SAME PC I always back it up to) it gives me the cant create the backup without unlocking the phone first. I do know the passcode, its just my screen is totally not usable at all.

How can I bypass the code so I can make a backup and get my stuff loaded onto a new phone?

iPhone 4, iOS 6.1.4

No. What you are referring to is when you have locked up your device by putting in the wrong password too many times. Then you can hook up to the computer your sync with and "restore from backup" in order to fix the problem.

Clearly, this won't help you since what you want to do is a more recent backup. What kinds of things are you talking about? Do you have iCloud?
